Just some random thoughts.
The President is in the brig for violating the chain of command. Does this mean that Baltar is now the acting President in the eyes of the military? This assumes that they find him on Kobol sane, etc.
Interesting point here – if they can prove that Boomer was a cylon (either by Starbuck returning or through actual testing) then doesn’t that blow Baltar’s credibility? He tested her. Also, he supposedly found the first cylon with another test, something that the series seem to have skirted around since. It has been brought up but I never felt satisfied that they had put that dangling issue to rest. Does all this mean that Baltar falls from grace finally? Surely not since the series has invested so much in his character. Maybe Baltar will lie and say he never got around to testing her. After all, she was his first test.
If Baltar falls, does this leave Colonel Tigh in charge of the military and the government until the government sorts itself out? Also, is Tigh’s wife a cylon? After Boomer, would they now retest everybody now and therefore maybe find her out? I don't think she is a cylon. If there are only 12 cylon models it seems pretty far fetched. Before Col. Tigh met her and got married, the cylons would have had to have pegged Col. Tigh to rise high in Colonial command without rising so high he is given a desk job. They couldn’t use another of her model type to be married to anybody else in the fleet (with the same goal in mind, being the wife of a senior officer) since at the top levels somebody would meet both person’s wives and recognise that they are either twins or something weird was going on.
My theory on the whole Number 6 in Baltar’s head thing is that she is projecting herself from close by. When she accused him of being helping the destruction of the colonies she was real enough. Why not just have her waiting around somewhere on one of the other ships? Hard to hide, but not impossible. Can they make their bodies look older or younger by adjusting the skin and hair? If so, an 80 year old looking No. 6 may not be recognised.
One problem I have with the whole “cylon plan all along” theory in relation to Baltar is that Baltar would be dead if Helo had not voluntarily given up his seat and Helo can’t be a cylon or the whole Caprica-Boomer story makes no sense whatsoever. Baltar had to be picked “after the fact” for his job of overseeing the new cylon/human hybrids. Does anyone know if Chris Carter is serving as an advisor? Will there be a poster somewhere on Colonial 1 saying “The truth is out there”?
It is clear now that “they have a plan” and it involves Earth. Boomer knew about the arrow and the rest, i.e., that being around it was important. It also means that the cylons guessed that someone would come back for it. Big gamble unless that was the reason for Leoben to reappear and push that thought forward again or the President was being pushed some more by someone else. What if her assistant is a cylon?
My theory on the human cylons. The human body is a machine – just like any animal. It runs on energy and transmits signals through electricity and chemicals. No reason that an advanced civilisation bent on such a project (old Cylons) could not come up with an incredibly close duplicate of real humans. It would be very, very close, a synthetic animal – just with silica bits to “help out” and flesh out the bit that is provided by the soul in humans [just guessing on the last bit there]. There are clearly enough differences that have already been pointed out, like radiation tolerances and strength, that show they aren’t just humans cloned or something like that. If the cylons thought being more like the direct creation of god would bring them closer to god, then you could see their culture aspiring to that and when they had achieved it, trying to supplant the humans. Maybe by mating with humans they can take the next step in their evolution that they can’t take on their own. They can certainly make a lot of Boomers if they want, and even expend a lot of them if need be. Although there may be some cosmic significance to having 12 models (for the cylons), I don’t see any reason why they would care if there are a billion of each type or a billion different types.
Also here is a strange thought – if the plan is to mate with humans, why have men cylons around? Also, if you plan on the whole human/cylon mating thing, then you could see why you would have some cute women, but the male cylons don’t especially strike me as studs. I am a straight male but even I can see that. You don’t need them for strength, etc., so why have them unless there are 6 men and 6 women (very likely) made for some cosmic significance. Are the men going to try and mate with human women? If so, why not make them real studs- a male version of No. 6? I am not much into oriental women but I think Boomer is pretty cute. The idea of being stuck in a base-star with a whole bunch of starkers Boomers and No. 6’s wouldn’t seem like such a bad life to me. I think I could almost forgive the nuking of my planet if the other cylons females were equally cute and friendly of course. Which leads me to another thought, why would it be necessary for them to set Helo up (remember him being left on Caprica was his choice) with a Boomer? Boomer had the Chief on Galactica and I am sure he could have knocked her up long before they broke up. Do the cylons have other humans still left on Caprica/the other colonies that survived long enough so that they are meeting up with other “survivors” who are hooking up with them in more ways than one?
I like the idea that the cylons were originally pushed into rebellion by a programmer. There are enough idiots around now who think that the world would be better off without humans. You could think of it like the animal rights activists here in the UK that set a bunch of fur animals free and almost all of them were killed by predators or starved to death (a far worse fate in my book than being killed quickly) within a few weeks. Some idiot “sets the cylons free” and it ends up being far worse than he could ever have imagined.
Just some random thoughts.
By the way, I really do like the series and I actually really like the intro music (at least the first bit) and am curious what the US bit sounds like. Anybody got a link to an mp3 or other music file?
