We got into this in another thread further down...here were my picks:
Depending on how you'd want him played...Caine could be the gruff military type:
R. Lee Ermey Sam Shepard Sam Elliot James Cromwell Powers Boothe Michael Rooker Gene Hackman (not a chance in Hell) Kurt Russell (like he needs the work) James Caan (already on a TV series)
The reserved, brilliant, calculating, myseterious type:
Mitch Pileggi Ed Harris Michael Biehn (could also do wacky unbalanced) Lance Henrisksen David Morse Andre Braugher
The wacky, possibly unbalanced guy
James Woods Fred Dreyer (don't laugh, I think he could do it)
Of course, if we can guess anything from RDM's casting choices already, it'll probably be:
Tyne Daly (honestly, she'd be good) Bea Arthur (deeper voice than Lloyd Bridges) Glen Close Lindsay Crouse

I think it's fine to be proud of a result...but you can be proud without being too self-congratulatory...particuarly in light of the fact that the new BSG is really hanging on a thread still, there is no guarantee of a 2nd year, and unless it gets decent ratings on Sci-Fi, it might be doomed.
Hopefully that won't be the case.

Listening to the commentary on the mini series dvd...I have to say that it actually makes me think *less* of the new series. Part of it, is that they are just really too pleased with themselves, particuarly every time they said "...usually sci-fi, it's *this* way, but we were so clever, that we changed it and did it *this* new cool way. The other thing, was that the producer said that they made Rosalin the civilian boss, to create tension that didn't exist in the old series...but if you know the old series, you know that those people like Ray Milland in the opening pilot, and in other episodes, where the counsel-types were doing their best to cause problems for the military. I still appreciate the new series, and I'm supporting it, but the combination of re-watching the original series, watching the Lowdown, and listening to the commentary actually as decreased it somewhat. Ah well Spass

If you think about it, we only saw about what, 10 minutes of interaction with Baltar and Six? I think it's been several years since I called my wife by her first name. You just don't do it after a while.
All the other interactions have been with Shelley Godfrey and of course, baltar's-head-six. (or whatever she is)
As for the Saul/Paul thing. Are you familiar with the story of the Biblical Paul?

Yeah, I was thinking Gene Hackman, James Caan, guys like that, but of course...I was also trying to be realistic. Spass

Helo hasn't figured out the thing about the human-looking cylons obviously. Someone needs to get him a copy of the mini-series DVD for Christmas.
The ships in the freighters...good plot twist. I was happy the episode wasn't too predictable. (luckily I didn't read Pithia, hehe).
The whole "this has all happened before" thing is starting to smell of The Matrix...I really hope it doesn't go down that road.

I'm starting to get a little Baltar fatigue. I mean, the guy gives in just way too easily to galatica-six's ministrations. I know a lot of you really like Baltar, but I think they're playing out his paranoia and fear *too* far. There has to be some reeling in, or really he's just pointless.

The thing I find intriguing, and maybe this is a theme that's appeared elsewhere in sci-fi, but think about how Baltar represents the so-called "Advanced" thoughts on religion, that is, that there are people who think that only "idiots" and "the brain-dead" would have faith in God. The Cylons, however, are soulless machines, but they in turn seem to exhibit faith and encourage faith in God, the machine teaches the human, the child is father to the man.
Now we know that the Colonials as a whole, have "gods" that they believe in, but the Cylons refer to "God" as the only God there is.
So when it all comes down to it, is this series a holy war? A war between montheistic cylons and pantheistic colonials?
Or...is the god that belongs to the Cylons, merely trying to use them to bring the humans back to him?
Either way, it's pretty intriguing.

I don't buy that the Cylons can just replace anyone. It doesn't seem to me that it's a case of "facial molds" because haven't they said that the flesh, organs, etc, are all human (grown? rather than molded?)
But there are some elements that are fake, detectable when they're cremated. (or with Baltar's cylon detector).
I think it's harder for them to make the humanoid cylons. Baltar has a "purpose" we learn that from Six right away, and I don't think a replaced Baltar could serve that purpose, otherwise why would they need him at all? If a cylon could fulfill that purpose, they'd just use a cylon.

Right before it hits, Six says "get down" and it seemed she was using her body to shield his from that blast...but who knows.
