Personally, I think the 13 episode seasons suit BSG pretty well. It doesn't result in filler episodes and every episode seems to advance an important storyline. Also, I think the number 13 suits BSG pretty well, as in 12 Colonies plus Earth. I only fervently wish, that next season they air BSG on the same day in the US as our UK brethren. 13 quality eps, no fillers, just quality

13 quality eps, no fillers, just quality 13? Pah! Once Braga, Coto, Bormanis, the Reeves-Stevenses and all the other sacked Enterprise writers transfer over from Paramount, they'll have a staff big enough to pen 52 Trek-quality episodes a year... Just imagine... "Dualla!" - "Yes Billy?" "Who's that strange woman with the unnatural tan, pudding bowl haircut and the green lycra suit?" - "I don't know Billy. She says she's from a planet called Vulcan, but I think she's a Cylon." "What makes you think that Dualla?" - "Have you seen her breasts? No way are they human!" "My God, you're right. Keep her occupied, I'm going to call the Commander..."

Ah, yes...another of the reasons Enterprise sucked. Brannon Braga (who in real life has been dating the actress behind Seven of Nine, Jeri Ryan, for several years now) must have a thing for cold, emotionless women with topheavy balance problems. So, seeking a sex symbol for all the dateless Trekkies to drool over, they take the (admittedly gorgeous) Jolene Blalock, and give her an unflattering haircut, an ugly outfit, and a demeanor that makes gravel look lively and excitable by comparison. They focus all hormonal-centric publicity on her. Meanwhile, the much, much, MUCH hotter Linda Park gets a more interesting character, a better haircut, a better-fitting outfit, and several cute-as-heck mannerisms. She and her character get largely ignored, apparently spending much of her copious spare time playing poker with Travis Mayweather off camera.
Dumb, dumb move. If they'd replaced every silly "T'Pol has to use a nasal numbing agent because humans smell bad" joke with an extended scene of Hoshi doing that trilling thing she did with her tongue in her first scenes from the pilot ep, their ratings would have been doubled.

The over emphasis on T'Pol was certainly one of Enterprises weak points. Whilst undoubtedly a good character you feel something occured off screen to ensure she was at the heart of almost every episode. Whehter this was contractual i'm unsure but as you say, it only served to hold back other more interseting characters.
There's no such problems with BSG. RDM has made sure the stories give depth and character to almost every role (except perhaps Dualla and Billy, time for that in Season 2 I hope). Strange that he's accomplished this in just 13 episodes and a mini-series whilst B & B couldn't manage it in 98 episodes!!!

Cough. Seriously though, I think it probably just a case of the producers giving her screen time because they thought that just seeing her there would keep all the teenage boys watching. It was the same with Seven of Nine, although she did add an extra layer to the mix that Voyager desperately needed, and did, when given the opportunity, play the character quite well. I just wish they'd given both her and T'pol proper uniforms. Both costumes were minging. ...Yet. Just hope you don't read in the celebrity mags that RDM's left his wife and has started dating Ms Helfer. That'll be when it all starts going pear-shaped...

Lol, not yet. Enterprise got cancelled though, you heard that? Yep too bad too. The "mirror" episodes sounds real good it should/will be a two part before the finale. Figure they break out the good stuff at the end. It was getting kinda stale.

As has been said (lots) elsewhere, if Enterprise had its current storylines in season 2 instead of season 4, its future may have been very different. Oh well, at least it'll go out on a high.,

Oh well, at least it'll go out on a high., Yeah the whole temporal cold war thing ruined it for me. Time travel is hard to do right because of all the paradoxes. And im sure Maywether had plenty of time to play poker seeing as he only had a scene and a line here or there. maybe it was never their intent to flesh out his character.

Eh? There may only be 13 episodes in the first season of BSG, but...I'd put money on the second season being considerably longer, probably the full 20-24. I think you'd lose that money. Darn, knew I should have taken that bet! ;D
