Awesome ep.
Great story and wonderfully screwed-up characters. Once again, RDM and crew keep the
characters at center stage. Bravo.
Randome musings to follow, sorry if it seems I'm rambling.
**The Boxing Match - what the heck were these two thinking? "Hey Son, let's go smack each other around." "Okay, Dad. Sounds like fun."
Look, I LOVED the scene, but how in Hades could they have expected this little excercise NOT to turn out badly? Could Adama possibly be any more clueless about who his son is? [Yo Dad! You should be
very very grateful that Vesuvius is still dormant and NOT blowing his top on you!] Could this father/son duo be any more disfunctional? (Yeah I guess they can, cause here comes KLG-Part2) I said a long time ago, before season 1 even started filming that I did NOT want Adama and Apollo totally reconciling any time soon, because I wanted to see more of EJO and JB going toe-to-toe. Hehe - didn't think I'd see it "literally." Cool stuff.
**Kara and Baltar - talk about dysfunctional. I really don't think Baltar is in love with Kara. He's just not used to being used and having his ego squashed. Just as he's putting on the big moves, heading for the big finish... she's dreaming about somebody else! In her mind, he's not even in the room. Ouch! No big mystery why he went for her -- she's female. But, why was she with him? Is she really that easy? Or that self-destructive? I hope this all leads to some good facing off between Lee and Baltar. James Callis and Jamie Bamber haven't had much of a chance to work together yet, but I suspect they could play off each other very nicely. I can see Baltar trying to "retaliate" against Lee in some way for the humiliation and try to prove that he's the better man and salve his bruised ego.
**Kara - she's true to form, if nothing else. As easily manipulated as Silly Putty. Do you think that maybe... just maybe... Adama will finally open his eyes and figure out that Kara does NOT walk on water? Will he do the math and realize that in spite of being a great pilot, she really does screw up more often than not? And where does she get off with the attitude? She's pissed because he didn't tell her the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the truth? Yo Kara -- what about that little getting-Zak-killed-and-lying-about-it-for-2-years thing?
**Galactica-Boomer - Man was that creepy, seeing Baltar talking Sharon
into suicide? I guess he does know, however, that she won't really die, but with her Galactica-body dead, nobody will find out about his false-negative test result, will they? Hmm. That little lie could be a problem for him, couldn't it? And is Boomer really that bad a shot? Or did her Cylon side prevent her from shooting straight until she's completed her mission. The master-at-arms should refuse to re-issue her a sidearm if she handles it that poorly.
**Caprica-Boomer and Helo - Would somebody give that poor boy a hug? I feel Soooooo sorry for him!! I don't feel sorry for Sharon. She knew (or at least believed!) that she wouldn't die even if he did shoot.
**Laura Roslin - true propeht? false prophet? or just looney? The visions are showing
some credibility, so we'll have to see how this arrow thing plays out. It was pretty under-handed to go behind the Commander's back with regard to the use of the Raider -- and pretty calous to interfere with the rescue of her VP -- but if she's right... she could end up saving Adama's ass... and HIS credibility. Starbuck isn't the only who'll be pissed over his charade if word gets out.
** Apollo and Starbuck - these two
definitely have "history' of some sort. RDM stated prior to the mini that they share some kind of "twisted" past relationship. Did they "do it" way back when, or not? I'm undecided. But Apollo is still irked by the memory of that major for
some reason. And so is Starbuck for that matter. They
have to elaborate on this next season.
** This ep's one MAJOR drawback - there's only one more ep left in the season! And then no more until July. BUMMER.
