ZAREK (on P.A.): Now that I am in command, there are going to be a few changes. Pilots, you can pick up your "Sphinx style" helmets in the hangar bay. On the helmets you will find your redesignated callsigns. Your flight instructor, Kara "Athena" Thrace, will hold a briefing at 08:00 to detail the new flight maneuver drills. I want to see military precision: the same maneuver should always look the same...

They have a contingent of *at least* 36 marines on Galactica, plus 2,000 other personnel on-ship. That should allow them to field a reasonable level of security around the ballroom, with the marines providing the appropriate level of expertise and discipline to the security teams. Secrecy wasn't needed. They had a gun. They had a man with the gun who had Roslin's entire itinerary in his hands. Doesn't take a security expert to put these together and realise appropriate action needs to be taken, and get the guy off the ship so that a) he is no longer a threat; b) those better equipped to question him at length (i.e. without the distraction of trying to run the security operation on Cloud Nine) can get on and question him. But don't we want to see the characters we know in on the action rather than the 2036 other personnel on board. I'm not particulary interested in seeing a security operation, only in how it affects our people.

Well since its only Tuesday, I am trying my best to keep my thoughts off BSG till Friday (which seems an eternity away). The bottom line here is, this is the only show on TV I even think about. There are so many things that I simply do not like in the world, and BSG is not one of them. Thus, I choose higher ground and say simply..Thank You Ron Moore for saving out collective asses.

OK - I'm a little late with some comments, but I'll throw them out there (we get the airing on Sat. night in Canada, and I was away then, so I just watched the taped version). If he had put his name up first she might have seen him as a threat, although not as great a one as Zarek. With the conversation Roslin had with Adama at the end, it is quite clear that she views Baltar as a significant threat, but a necessary evil that had to be endured to avoid a greater evil. The story seems to suggest Ellen's behind it, but she's such an unlikable little harpy that i can't get interested. ahhh, unfortunately I agree with you there. The character seems to be to be a device character that is being used to confuse the viewer (is she a cylon or not?), but is so detestable, I don't think the viewer cares one way or another... Well - I don't. She's just a bit too contrived for my taste. ernestborg9 - you make excellent posts. You captured a lot of my feelings to a "T", although I can see Baltar taking every bit of attention that his megalomaniac mind can handle. His "Politics is boring" is referring to the detail of politics, not the limelight. Of course, just like everything else in his recent life, he will leave the details to others as he basks in the limelight. And I can just see it... "I don't have time for those sample runs... can you do it for me?". No more boring work for him! Now, my pet peeves that I hope will decrease rather than increase with the series (and I doubt they will.....) 1) "Let's live life as normal". Uh Uh. Let's face it... if this happened to humanity, there would be martial law and none of this politics or the inane radio babble. You think a gov't (esp. one in weakness) would allow media types to whip up the civilian population into a fervor? Nope. They haven't gone far enough to get to that point yet. Not after only a few weeks. I don't expect this to ever improve since this is an artistic direction the writers have taken to appeal to the society we live in today (which I don't think is a positive reflection of humanity). 2) Drop-in & Drop-out characters. I suppose this is to be expected with a new series, but I have to agree that some of these characters aren't being developed at all. I expect the ex-right-hand-man of the Prez won't be seen of in a long long time. I can hope that this WILL improve as they take more time to develop season 2. For example, it would have been good for the right-hand-man to have made an appearance a few episodes ago, and then again last week, even if it was in a trivial spot (like how Dualla is being used currently - no offense to her). The writers are going to have to start thinking further in advance in their writing. 3) I completely agree with the comments that Starbuck & Apollo should not have been on security detail. They're pilots, and not Marines/soldiers. At MOST they should have been there for the party at the end. This is edging towards the Star Trek "the entire senior command will go on the away party" mentality. IMO Tigh should have lead a group of marines/soldiers to do the duty, and Starbuck/Apollo should have remained on Galactica. And while we're on the subject, why were all the NCO's dancing in the party? Again, only 2-4 of them deserved to be there (Sharon (lt), Apollo (cpt), Adama, Tigh, and PERHAPS Starbuck and Tyrol). Perhaps I am overly critical, and looking at MY vision of what I would expect the state of humanity to be after that kind of disaster. I would expect more depression, more darkness, with very little humor and a whole lot of angst. I'd also push the actors to move to their baser instincts - more animalistic as they fight for survival. That of course is a completely different direction than the one they're taking, and more likely too dramatic for the general public wants to see... I still expect excellent things in the future, and expect much of this will get better as the writers get a better grasp of a full plot line. I also think Boomer's character is one of the keys to making this show successful, since it is a vehicle that can launch all kinds of story possibilities (involving ethics, morality and the meaning of life - again... which may be beyond the ambitions of the writers). PS - yikes... sorry for the long post

I can see the Kara/Baltar thing working for at least a one night stand. The hints are scattered over a few episodes, adding more tension to the Lee/Kara relationship is a good thing. I am surprised so many people are upset over the 1 nite stand deal
