Best Actor for Role of Commander Cain

My TOS trivia is bit rusty, but wasn't Commander Cain something of a grand war hero to the people of the colonies? You know, a real God of War type--a la Douglas MacArthur or George Patton. Anyway, that's how I remember it.

That kind of description makes one think of a tall, strapping, barrel chested, blood and guts, force of nature übermensch.

What they should do is cast against type. Think Napoleon Bonaparte, the “Little Corporal.” This short, stout, fireplug of man--but nonetheless forceful and brilliant.

I can’t think of a specific actor or actress--wouldn’t that be a skull frak?.

I like the Micheal Ironsides, he's always been one of my favorites. He would be perfect for the hard-nosed kinda crazy Cain. He was awesome in Starship Troopers and Sea Quest. Kurt Russell would also make an excellent choice but my first choice would be Ironsides, even his name is cool-and him alongside EJO would be awesome!

This is my first post here and I've read all the replies to this question. I think a real good candidate for Cain would be...

James Morrison

Col. TC Mcqueen from Space Above and Beyond. He has played a lot of military types of all sorts. It seems like he would have the depth to carry on the classic Cain or "reimagine" the character. He has a serious badass quality about him too!

In terms of fantasy stars... I can't believe nobody said Jack Nickolson....

Or perhaps Vinnie Jones, except I'd think it would be someone a little older. I'm terrible with actor's names...
