If you really think that, then you weren't watching the scene closely enough.

Yeah, as hard as it was for me to watch being a fairly new mom when the mini originally aired, it appeared she was doing it as a mercy killing while at the same time satisfying her curiosity of just how thin the baby's neck was, as alluded to by her comment to the baby while she's holding it and the mother momentarily looks away. Something to the effect of 'There little one, there won't be much to cry over soon.'

I decided to impale you instead. Stakes can be used more than once. All the wood was getting expensive. Mustex, you're really starting to worry me now. You're thinking about this a leetle too hard. Now i feel better, because at least i know i won't be burning alone. caseOrange, we need a plan. Perhaps we can distract him with something shiny and then make a run for it? ;D

The best episodes of both Trek and BSG's original series were among the best TV sci-fi ever. I'll stack up the first hour or so of the original BSG-TOS pilot movie up against anything in the Star Trek, Star Wars, or Babylon 5 film libraries any day of the week. When Trek-TOS was good, it was also very good -- but, man oh man, when it was bad, it was very bad indeed...and there are a couple of BSG-TOS episodes (not to mention pretty much all of Galactica 1980) that should probably never have been aired.
I haven't seen BSG-TNS yet, but the Miniseries was very good (even if it did drag in a few spots), and far, far better than "Encounter at Farpoint", "Caretaker", or "Broken Bow"....and even stacks up well against "The Emissary", and for that matter, against "The Gathering", "Under the Night/An Affirming Flame" and "Serenity". As pilot-miniseries go, Battlestar Galactica in both series probably has the #1 and #2 spots of all time. BSG-TOS couldn't maintain that quality of momentum through the season, but from all reports from the Brits and bitleggers amongst us, BSG-TNS *does* maintain that level of quality and perhaps even gets better. If so, it's gonna be a much, much better series than anything Trek ever produced.

Ha! Behold a plan, a cunning and subtle one...almost as cunning as a fox that's just been made Professor of Cunning at Oxford University... *strokes chin thoughtfully* (with apologies to anyone who has or hasn't seen Rowan Atkinson as Blackadder... ;D)
