Pulaski was pretty bad too. I did like Guinan & loved Q. I wished Q was a member of the crew. That would have been so cool (hey- that rhymes!) KR

Q kicked ass. Picards refusal to allow him to join up has always been a mystery to me. I mean, the guy was pretty much omniscient, even if he was a grade-A jerk. It's not like space exploration is a game of Jeopardy, where it's important to play fair - refusing to hire an all-knowing demigod when your crew risks their lives every week when you encounter the unknown is mindless arrogance.

O.K.
Much as I prefer BSG to Star Trek I'm going to have to call you on one thing. . .
There's no way Six is hotter than Seven of Nine. Sorry.

I'll back up the toilet thing. Typical of a through-rose-coloured-glasses show like Trek to avoid the normal functions of everyday life. This, mind you, from a long-standing fan of TNG! ;D And I'd have liked it if once- JUST ONCE- somebody had punched Wesley in the face or told him to just shut the heck up or done SOMETHING OTHER than consider him a perfect, likeable angel. Considering the Enterprise crew are supposed to be the best and brightest in the Fleet, and a teenaged boy solves nearly every big problem they encounter (all right, slight blowing up there but still...you know what I mean). Doesn't say much for the intelligence of the rest of Starfleet, does it?
And at the risk of getting shot down in flames, napalm, poisonous fumes and much else, I agree with caseOrange that there's little can beat ST:TOS. Even if it looks out of date and kind of naff (okay, VERY naff) now, it's important to remember that it was very possibly THE first sci-fi show on television that put science fiction into the public consciousness. Without the original Trek, Star Wars, Battlestar Galactica and any other sci-fi you care to name would very very likely never have happened. For that alone surely we must revere ST:TOS even if we don't like it very much.

Star Trek Enterprise was a little rough in its first season, but then got better. It was my favorite show before Battlestar Galactica TNS. The last few episodes of Enterprise have been excellent. Start at season 4, episode 4 (Borderline) to episode 9 (Kir'Shara). It is basically 3 episodes of Wrath of Khan followed by 3 episodes of Search for Spock.
The amazing thing about Battlestar Galactica is that it hit the ground running.

We'll always revere the first motion pictures the Lumiere brothers filmed, but they don't exactly compare to Citizen Kane and onward. Being first is great, but doesn't really say anything about quality. Oh, and I'm pretty sure Star Wars would have happened - Trek or no Trek. (I like TOS, loved TNG, liked DS9, hated VOY, ambivalent about ENT, loved B5)

Good grief no. I wouldn't put it even on a par. I just don't think it's fair to rip it to shreds. For its day it was pretty groundbreaking. And even if it gets watched now there's no reason to go on about how pants it is- it's still pretty darn good entertainment, IMHO. I do however totally agree with MHall about TNS of BSG hitting the ground running. Haven't seen a bad episode yet. But I don't like Enterprise. Say what you like, but I don't. Which is a shame because I adore Scott Bakula. Oh well. You win some, you lose some.

Oh, and I'm pretty sure Star Wars would have happened - Trek or no Trek. "Star Wars" was based on "Flash Gordon" and "Buck Rogers," which pre-date "Star Trek" by far.
