Guess I might as well put something in here on the 'introduction' thread..... I'm a fan of both series. I remember tuning in a channel out of Rochester waaaaayyyy past my bedtime to catch TOS when I was a kid. I loved the show. Not as much as Star Wars, but it was right up there. I heard of the continuation efforts by Hatch a few years back but since at that time I didn't have any consistent internet access I lost track of it. I didn't hear about the Desanto Singer deal until after I had seen TNS. I've been following the boards at skiffy, here, CA and CF since I first saw the mini. Needless to say, it's been interesting reading. I haven't posted much, 'cause honestly, who wants to walk into an existing war between fandom factions? I will admit to getting some comic relief from Lang & Spider at times though. I'm pretty impressed with this place so far. Good work guys.
BTW, Big Brother: I thought I'd seen the last of Jean Chretien when he retired! The Little Dictator from Shawinigan!

BTW, Big Brother: I thought I'd seen the last of Jean Chretien when he retired! The Little Dictator from Shawinigan! Heh heh...I've had a love-hate thing going with Canada in general for many years. I love making fun of Canada at any opportunity, yet half my fave shows are made there (Andromeda, new BSG, etc.) and half my fave singers are from there (Sarah McLachlan, etc.) and lotsa my fave actors are as well (Shatner, Aykroyd, Laura Bertram, etc.). I even was a beta-tester for a computer game designed and made in Canada (Superpower 2). I like most Canadians I know online, I loved visiting Toronto many years ago...but something about Canada just bugs me to no end. That particular sig-block image is a placeholder until I can think up a good BSG-related one. I used to have one saying to not choose the lesser of two evils and vote for Big Brother in 2004, but with the election over that one had to be retired.

Hello, I was lurking here for a while, thought I 'd say hi. It looks like a pretty good forum here, without the BS like some others. I think I'm gonna like it here.

By way of introduction- I'm Shawn. I tend to move through a lot of fandoms(BUFFY, BIRDS OF PREY, STAR TREK, X-MEN) under the handle of The Godfather. I'm a chick but the handle Godmother doesn't tend to do much for me so I go with one that's a tad cooler. I caught the mini last year over three airings and then spent the next two months checking in every day at Koenig's board to see if word on series pick-up had come yet. When it did I was delighted. Now I find myself still a bit reluctant to get too submerged in the fandom for fear of the axe but I have great hopes on this one.
I'm also a fledging writer of sorts with about 50+ tv related stories(fan-fic) to my name as well as a few Virtual Season(BIRDS OF PREY) TV scripts.
Ok, that's me.
-Shawn

Hello all, another newb/nugget reporting for duty! *waves* It's the beautiful layout and the intelligent, civil people & discourse that led me here. I, too, grew up watching TOS but am totally blown away with its latest incarnation. Suffice it to say, I haven't been this passionate about, and impressed with, a TV show for some time. Reminds me of my crushing on The X-Files, back in its glory days, *before egos Exploded*--but I digress*. I was really pleasantly surprised; the kernel of the story has been taken to a whole new level, with Moore's emphasis on realism and intense drama. I liked TOS okay, but always regarded it a distant second to its obvious inspiration, the original Star Wars Trilogy. (*whew*, there's some nasty trolling & flaming elsewhere, and I just don't have the time or patience for that BS. Saw way too much of that as a "Dark Angel" fan, *ugh*.) TOS is what it is, and so is the new show, which deserves to be judged upon its own (extensive) merits, imho. Like lots of other folks here, I found this place through Skiffy, which is a mine field. Mediablvd. is OK, esp. since the cast/crew visit it, but it's not nicely organized like here. Anyways, hope everyone had a wonderful holiday. Here's to the new year--the Year of NuBGS!!! cheers, teoni

Hi all. I have an on-again/off-again history of participation in fan sites. I think my first time was back on Usenet in the Love Hounds group, before the web was invented. I started on the Skiffy boards to express my disgust with The Legend of Earthsea, and then wandered over to the BSG boards a few days before episode 1 aired in the US. Found this site from people's sigs over there. I was into the original BSG when it first aired. I was in High School at the time. I'm not sure I was a fan, though. Never joined any fan clubs or kept up on the attempts to bring the show back. I pretty much forgot about it until I saw the ads for the brand new mini series. (So I guess that was summer or fall of 2003.) I forgot most of what I knew about the first show other than the fact that I liked it at the time. When I checked out some info and watched the mini, some memories came back. I don't regret having liked it back then, but I do realize it was (IMHO) cheesy. That was fine then, but I've matured and I'm glad the new show is more mature too. I'm not a gung-ho science fiction and fantasy fan, though I'm more likely to pick up a book in that genre than some other. But my reading constantly changes. Lately, I've been back on a non-fiction cult-expose kick. I like LeGuin. I remember when some TOS tollers came over to that board to say, "now you know how we feel". I didn't agree... I did my research when I heard about the new BSG, and they said right off the bat that they were going to re-imagine it. Unfortunately, we Earthsea fans were told that they would remain honest to the books. Well, enough of that... When if comes to movies, I don't have any favorite genre, though I tend to go for dark humor more than anything else. You can check out my list of faves in that thread. I think it is pretty eclectic. Though it also shows that I currently consider the Coen brothers to rank amoung my favorite filmmakers. I currently also hold the honor of being the furthest north on the map. Technically, that is where I work, but it still counts.
