It looks like the Kobol stroyline will have to run into a second season so I would like to see a kickass battle on the surface between colonial marines and new cylon toasters. We can all safely agree that they were intentional pushovers when it came to pursuing Helo but with their gloves off in a real encounter they would raise hell no doubt! It would be nice if Moore and co could pull this off with a level of intensity on par with Band of Brothers with realism as a prority and a complete abscence of false heroics.

Theres no way a scraggly bunch of random survivors would have the industrial base, technical know-how, or even labor for that matter to build a mammoth undertaking like a Battlestar.
Unlike Star Trek, in real life people don't know all the technical specs and details of every piece of equipment on a ship. If I gave you an unlimited supply of electronics components and tools, I'm guessing you couldn't build a DVD player.
Make the same offer to a modern figher pilot. "I'll give you anything you ask for, how long do you think it you take you to build an F-16?" He'll laugh at you. Real life just doesn't work that way.
Constructing vipers is probably about as ambitious as it gets for this bunch. At least in that case you've got an experienced mechanical crew that IS intimately familiar with every aspect of a viper from having to fix them constantly, and has probably built one several times over when you look at how much repair/replacement they've had to do.
Even if you had the guy who originally designed and supervised construction of the battlestars, that just requires far to large of an infrastructure to support as opposed to a small, one man fightercraft.
I like the idea of some fleet remnants who escaped the destruction of the Colonies. That would actually be fairly realistic. Its highly unlikely that the cylons would be able to catch every single military vessel (except one) and destroy them in a single engagement.

I think the show would be too much like star trek if a new Battlestar was built amongst the fleet. Remember that everything is going to have to be re-cycled or rationed including food, water and metal. It would be too far fetched if a Galactica mark 2 arrives on the scene in the future. I remember the Voyager episode when they built the delta flyer, the problem of a lack shuttlecraft was too easily answered by the crew constructing this craft in under a week. Moore is striving to avoid easy fix-its a la star trek so he'll go in the opposite direction with the fleet having to suffice with what they have. The foundry ship will at least provide spare parts for the vipers, but I do not see it constructing any new fighters if the series is going to remain true to the conventions Moore is sticking to.
It would be nice if they encountered other battlestars along the way besides Pegasus. There is plenty of story ideas which can make each encounter different from the other and could provide some good opportunities for flashbacks to the cylon attack if a larger budget is made available by Sky and Scifi.

If they do include the Pegasus next season it would be cool if they introduce some new characters besides Cain and Sheeba from this ship. How about a cook? How about a shrink? How about grumpy contract cleaners? Seriously, there is a great chance for more texture to be added to the show by including a few more roles.

The only way for them to establish a real industrial base is if a mining/industrial fleet managed to escape the destruction. They can't build anything bigger than a viper or until they get their hands on large smelters and foundries (modern shipyards always have the foundries nearby). They might be able to build some habitation or cargo compartments to add to soem of the existing ships. But this will be limited and only go so far.
Somehow, i'd like to see the fleet climb to the original 200+ number of ships seen in TOS. Others had to survive. That's my biggest nitpik. You will always have survivalists. Find them and instant drama!
I want to see Adama come to his senses and go back to the colonies to steal and scavenge and pick up stragglers.
Why not return to the salvage yard on Sagitaron and start loading up the ships. Each season, they should be entitled to one or two significant victories. Let one be a successful scavenging raid back at the colonies. Or at least rendezvousing with someone that has pulled off a major raid. The best way to get more vipers is to steal them from the shattered colonies.
And of course - more cylon backstory. Just enough to describe the colonials really poor judgement.

I think the fleet has all it needs to build new ships or repair the existing ones. Lets remember folks, this is science fiction and these are people with better technology than we have today. As much as I enjoy the illusion of "they are just like us" and "this is an aircraft carrier in space", if they suffered our limitations they wouldnt be in space at all. That said lets look at the ships that would provide a complete technological infrastructure; The Tauranian is a refinery ship. She looks like a collection of enormous balloons filled with Tylium, all of which are connected to a small central habitation hub. The Control hub is shaped like a long, cylinder, studded with large windows. The giant billowing fuel balloons are constantly monitored and maintained from the Control hub -- all via hand-operated valves, pumps, etc. So....this ship provides for the fuel needs of the fleet. The Mineral Ships were used for planetary survey and ore extraction. They would search out Solium deposits and other valuable ores that were used by the Twelve Colonies of Kobol.
This vessel provides for the fleets raw material needs. The Hephaestus is a foundry ship used for producing castings in molten metal for the RagTag Fleet. It is capable of manufacturing Vipers and Viper parts for the Galactica if needed. This vessel takes the raw materials and processes them. The Celestra is an industrial eletronics repair ship in the Ragtag FleetVoila. The electronics needs are met. Lets build a ship. Frankly, given time, I dont doubt that these vessels could build another Battlestar (especially a vintage model like Galactica). Course, the key word is time. I think they would need lots and lots of time for a big vessel. They would need to park in a system with resources and live there awhile.......maybe a couple years, maybe much more.

It would be neat to see the Galactica pick up some midsize support ships, rather like our destroyers. It would be interesting to see how the ship-to-ship combat would play out . However, since they are so far away from home now this scernario seems faint at best. I'd like to see the Pegasus as well, but I'm not gonna hold my breath, and it wouldn't break my heart any if it never shows up in TNS. I like the idea of one ship. Besides, who is to say that the Cylons didn't capture a Battlestar and crew it with Cylons? Adama would have to be pretty crazy to just let a strange ship into the fold without a hell of an explanantion. EDIT: Oh yeah, and show more Cally...

There are 13 colonies and Kobal and so far we only see Caprica and Kobal. It would be very realistic to search around the other colonies and pick up ships, survivors, and supplies. They might even see some of the destroyed or badly damaged battlestars left for dead and in which they might repair or rebuild. Maybe not to full glory but at least enough to carry people and provide firing support during heavy battles. Just an added thought.

I would also like to see them recycle the Cylon tech that is left after a battle to improve ships ,extend the range of FTL drives and use to make new fighters. Ie the salvaged raider. They must be able to get the peices (not just the whole ones) of these things after a battle if they don't have to run. They also could steal Cylon supply ships and such as they wouldn't be armed like the raiders. I would also like to see what happend to the people/bodies. Maybe the Cylons recycle them for food/energy.

Question for US fans:
I read recently that ratings for NBC have dropped them (with the departure of Friends) down to 4th place among the US networks. Since they own SciFi, and this series seems to be doing so well, do you think there is a chance that TNS would be picked up by the parent network?
I think it would be a bad thing, and that's why my season two wish is that it is renewed by SciFi and also that it stays on SciFi.
If Cmdr Adama's call sign is "Husker", shouldn't we call Lee "Husker Deux"?

Its possible that BSG could wind up on NBC as a summer replacement series or the like, much as they have done with 'Monk', but I wouldn't think there'd be much chance of it jumping ship to NBC altogether...it would be a riskier move to have to depend on network numbers & as it stands now, Universal has the best of both worlds by having the show on Sci-Fi & having NBC to use as a free showcase for it to get double the ad revenue.

Designing and building a new battlestar is too far fetched, I think the best we'll see them do is refit one of the fleet vessels as a military support ship by adding weaponry and armour to it; the foundry ship could be put to use in realising this. As a result, the fleet would have some protection if the Galactica was engaged in a raid similar to the one we saw for tylium.
