I played D&D about 20 odd years ago. This is the first time I've looked at any d20 system, it looks almost identicle to what I remember. I'd probably lurk for a while to see how it all works, but I'm baffled to how you'll roll a dice on-line. Also, how does everything stay together, if people aren't on-line when a decission is made? Do you have an example link to a good system running? Could be a laugh.

Thanks. So are you prepared to GM this? I have no probs with that. Let's see who shows up to play and who's best equiped for GMing before any decisions are made, though.

First, we need a forum dedicated to role-playing, probably in the other media category. It's best we organize things where they are going to be set up for the game. We also need to decided on a game system. People don't need to spend a whole lot of money on a system they don't own. Best if we use one of the many free RP systems that litter the net. You can get the basic D20 system for free as a download from the WoTC d20 system page... www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=d20/welcomeHere's the original source document download link... www.wizards.com/d20/files/v35/SRD.zipAnd the D20 Modern sorce document link... www.wizards.com/d20/files/msrd/MSRD.zipHuh? (raises hands) I thought this was going to be a plot driven RPG, not like something with D20s and math. Like paragraphs where each player plays a character and writes based off of planned plots...

Like paragraphs where each player plays a character and writes based off of planned plots... It is for the player characters. The GM is the one who has to worry about whatever math that needs being done, and it's done behind the scenes. However, the option is always there for a player to be more involved in some situations if they choose to be. It's also a fallback if a player disagrees with the outcome of an action. The GM is always able to say... see... the reason this happened was A, B, C.

Never played anything PNP style before, usually when something happened in the RPs I've been at its usually a preplanned agreed upon action. So there really isn't any need for dice cause everybody agrees, nothing is "truely" improvised. Next Question: Would a person be able to write page long posts based upon outcome? ie. Would there be room for creativity, if two players wanted to have characters "team up" for such-and-such a reason? For example, a Cylon agent wanting to get her/his hot little hands on the Galactica's nukes would need to convince the weaponsmaster to allow him to get the nukes, which could take character development. Basically is it all just dice rolls or is there drama?

Basically is it all just dice rolls or is there drama? Still done the same way, there are just pre-arranged back-up plans... most of this is done via intelligence checks. In other words... Intelligence is important. There's a certain subset of roleplayers who try to crunch numbers and get the absolute strongest or quickest characters around at the expense of their character's IQ, and then try to roleplay their characters as if they were just as intelligent as any other character. Well, they aren't. This will be revealed in basic common sense checks that the players will never see. Smart characters will be on the ball enough to go to plan B if plan A screws up. Dumb characters might be likely to continue to attempt what is obviously pointless to everyone else in the room. A smart character who attemted to... say... sneak past a cylon and blew it, but had a good weapon skill too would use common sense, draw a weapon and shoot if they blew a stealth check. A dumb one would keep "sneaking" past a cylon looking straight at them even though it's reconfiguring it's hands into blasters. See how it works.

Sounds interesting... Never played an RP using PNP, but seem like its worth a shot... PnP RPGs have been out since the mid 70's. The kinks have been worked out for a while. They are a far better method for developing unique characters than computer RPGs. They are also better suited for a realism-oriented settings like BSG. Diceless systems work better for lighter material and settings.

I have been in a Battlestar Galactica RPG for the last half year. It started out after the Mini-series it only took us four months to get beyond 8 or 9 days beyond Ragnar. It came to a stopped as the Series was in play in the UK. The series was so full of new backgrounds and character development that we stopped with the RPG. The RPG is now back into play, started hours after the last episode. There are so many new open ended plots that we need more players... many of the main characters are still available for play. It is always good to have new players join in... to keep things real and all. Link: pub57.ezboard.com/bbattlestargalactica2003rpg12822 and www3.telus.net/public/akamyot/bsgrpg.htmlPlease take a look.... and join the adventure.

Example post of mine in the RPG as Six. "Found them quicker than expected. Good Job." She walks out of the shadows and into the light, with a Centurion not too far behind her. "I can see that our brave Helo has shot Sharon," she looks at the group and then at the two Cylon models and smirks, "A lover's quarrel."Then looking more serious, "Do they have the arrow?" There is room for original characters too... probadly a lot easier to play. OS

The RPG has actually been in operation for over a year, we took up our home on ezboard in april of 2004, but it was via email prior to that. In the time between the inception of the board and the beginning of the series airing in the UK, we managed over 2000 posts of in game play.
I would like to encourage everyone who is interested in an RPG to come by and check us out. We are still in need of some key players, and of course originals are always welcome!

I had actually considered going there, but then I saw you were using the show's main characters, which turned me off. Artistically, I can't see why anybody would want to RP characters that are best written by the writers who created them, which is why I only RP at places that use original characters only. I think the BSG world makes a great setting and has tons of writing possibilities, but the main characters should be written by the professionals, Ron Moore and crew.
