I think i would receive a raised eyebrow if i asked for this in a bar in Glasgow or Edinburgh. It sounds an interesting concoction nonetheless

I don't think I have even ever had a "Bloody Mary" (which is the closest thing to the Caesar that I can think of and what they serve in the USA). I'm sure every country has some unique concoctions that are relatively unheard of in other places.

I found a website for the Brick Brewery home of "Waterloo Dark" and many other great beers. beerme.com/breweries/ca/on/51.shtmlSleeman's is a pretty good and well known microbrewery, but I like Brick beers better overall.

Boddingtons is an english bitter hybrid with one of those widgets inside to give a creamy head (did I just say that ) ESB is a draft bitter, but can't remember the brewery name. Horndean's HSB or Abbot's Bishop's Finger are the ones I look out for, failling that, Courage Directors is the next best thing. I don't like the pressurised bitters too much. I drink Guiness or Murphy's in downmarket establishments (), it's hard to frak up those drinks. Good ale needs a diligent landlord, otherwise you may as well poor it on your chips. ESB stands for Extra Special Bitter. It is a style rather than a brand appelation. Bishop's Finger is colloquailly know as "Nun's Delight." The nitro widgets are a bad thing as far as I am concerned. Doesn't look like CAMRA has a site up anymore, but nitrogen is not a natural or traditional beer addative. Fermented beverages trend differently the further north you are, presumably based on climate. Temperate areas tend to produce more wine, a little cooler climate, and beer is more prevalent, and further north still, distilled spirits take hold. Within the world of beer, local ingredients tend to determine the national character of beer. Scotland can grow plenty of barley, and not much good hops, so their beers tend to be less bitter, and what the hell, might as well make whiskey. America and Japan use rice as a filler grain, and it is not something I am proud of. Anyone in to Lambics?

Alright, now y'all are starting to freak me out. i don't know anyone down here who would mix clam juice and tomato juice together, except to play a practical joke on someone. i could see people in the Northeast U.S. drinking or mixing with clamato juice; but not down here.

Actually, an old friend of mine married a Scottish girl that he met here in the States, and they moved to Glasgow at the beginning of the year. He used to go with her to visit her folks now and then, and he loved it. i pity his liver. (BTW, is it true what Michael Myers said, that Scottish food is based on a dare...like haggus, and things like that?)

(BTW, is it true what Michael Myers said, that Scottish food is based on a dare...like haggus, and things like that?) It depends CaseOrange - i actually quite like Haggis but it depends what's in it ( i won't go into the gory details ). Its traditionally served with neeps (turnip) and tatties (potatoes) and should be enjoyed afterwards with a wee dram (whiskey)..or two or three... We Scots do have plenty of concoctions - none very famous i think! Mix it and hope for the best ;D As long as the end result is the same P.S. We do produce the finest malt whiskey and to mix such a fine drink with anything is a tragedy and people found guilty of doing so should be hung drawn and quartered ;D

This is what a call a quality thread subject. Current discovery..... Titanic brewery Stout. CAMRA (that's the Campaign for Real Ale for all you non UK-types) champion ale of 2004. It's a belter. My fave of all time is of course Bass, the classic pale ale. My local has perfected the art of serving the perfect Bass: thick creamy head, strong taste and a splitting headache after only 3 of the blighters!! Theakston's Old Peculiar and Adnams Broadside are also regular tipples for me.
