Both fandoms now have a common enemy: "Entertainment Weekly." Please note their comment on the new Galactica:

I think this kind of stuff stems from the built-in animosity towards sci-fi fans from "legitimate" media. As far as the entertainment magazines, TV shows, and newspapers are concerned, any sci-fi fans might as well be the stereotypical "Trekkies" seen in costume at conventions. It doesn't occur to many of these reviewers that the majority of science fiction fans are also intelligent, thoughtful, discerning people who know quality when they see it.
I'd love to see an Entertainment Weekly cover story on BSG, but I know that won't happen, for the same reasons. Even though Farscape became a huge fan success, it never got that kind of attention, nor did Stargate SG-1. I think the most we'll ever see are ads and idiotic remarks from reviewers.

The EW critic who reviewed PKW said if the Farscape fans did another revival campaign, he'd be involved.

Ew FILTH! I think it's time you took your stakes and 'torch the heretics' ambitions away from innocent folk (like moi and caseOrange who defend Trek!) and set them to better use against such fiends as these. Go Mustex, go! ;D

I think it's time you took your stakes and 'torch the heretics' ambitions away from innocent folk (like moi and caseOrange who defend Trek!) and set them to better use against such fiends as these. So Say We All! ;D This is the kind of smug bias towards sci-fi (the genre, not the channel) that seems to run throughout the entertainment news media. The impression seems to be that the "hot" stars only do a cursory dip into science fiction so that they can "diversify" their work history for their resume. Unfortunately, i think sci-fiers will always be referred to with a smirk by others because of one reason: we play with aliens and their technologies. Even if a sci-fi movie or tv series has nothing to do with aliens, that's the first image that pops into someone's mind--aliens with lazer guns. It gets me a little upset sometimes, but i stopped trying to fight these people years ago (although i applaud anyone who still does!). If i meet someone who seems to have a fair opinion about sci-fi, i'll tell them about BSG (i've even converted a few people into viewers ;D); but for those who scoff at it, i leave it be. Their the ones missing out, because when we leave these mortal shells behind and stand before the Lords of Kobol, the gods will smile more brightly on some than on others. [glow=blue,2,300] So Say We All![/glow]

I'm with you too, CaseOrange...the media shows the same bias toward the horror genre, as well. Heck, the studios even invented a new euphamism for horror so they wouldn't have to label their movies as such...they could market them as "Thrillers", like Silence of the Lambs...which is about a killer who skins women to wear their flesh after torturing them in a pit...but oh no - its not a horror movie, its a 'thriller'! Basically, any genre works, sci-fi, horror, or fantasy, will never get the proper respect from the media and from critics, no matter how many Exorcists, Blade Runners, or Lord of the Rings we see...you just have to get past it and note that critics name to add to your personal ignore list....personally the only man who's movie reviews I ever trusted to begin with was Joe Bob Briggs...

Both fandoms now have a common enemy: "Entertainment Weekly." Please note their comment on the new Galactica: A reminder... Entertainment Weekly is basically a PR publication for the parent Time-Warner corporation. Time Warner publications are notorious for being bias toward their own properties and stars. How else do CNN anchors keep getting listed in People's Sexiest Man Alive annual. BSG doesn't belong to Time-Warner cable, so therefore, it sucks.

this is something that has allways really pissed me off!!!
BSG is fantastic as we all know and theres no aliens in site - no real technobable and whatever little there is its understandable if these kind of ppl would give these things a chance they would see how fantastic the writing is and would probly be amazed with the maturity of themes they touch on 9/11, genocide etc....

[rant]Which alas, Helo, is unlikely to ever happen because those kinds of people will only ever watch sci-fi expecting to see bright lights, explosions and lots of shiny things. And of course they'll be fully expecting this so much that they are oblivious to any subtleties within the storylines. Kind of a self-fulfilling prophecy theory designed exclusively for stupid people.[/rant]
Luckily the world is not made up solely of such people, and there are lovely folk such as ourselves out there. ;D

Frak Entertainment Weekly, that shitrag has always been that way with the scifi genre, unless it's bubblegum crap like Buffy or Xena or Dark Angel or whatever! They are the print equivalent of a pop music radio station! If it's not geared toward the masses it isn't worth watching to them!
FRAK EM'!!

Are you starting to take after the old man? ;D BTW--i had to change the avatar because someone else started using it. Too bad. i thought that orange glow on his face helped emphasize my posting name. Oh well...i had been meaning to make up my own for a while, but had gotten lazy about it. i guess this is what i needed to get me to get up off my butt and do it.
