Good news fellow Galacticans:
According to my very reliable source, the overnights for Episode 3 were a 3.4. The overnights last week were a 3.3 (and the national was a 2.6). Going up in the second week is extremely rare for a TV series. If the national holds and BSG does a 2.7, this would be exceptional and would help to lock in a Season 2 commitment.

KR This is good news, but honestly, I do not think that there is anything to worry about. We are going to get a second season, the ratings are good and so are the reviews particularly the industry reviews. At next year's Emmy’s I would not be surprise if there were not a few nominations from BSG. The show is a hit and as long as it continues in the same fashion that we have enjoyed thus far it will have a long and happy life. The good news is that it is the right show at the right time, 5 years ago, it would not have well received and 5 years from now who knows. The only thing that can stop it is if the actors decide that they all want big raises to go along with all the good press they have received. ;D

Aaron Douglas just confirmed this news over at MediaBlvd & I am posting it here in its entirety:
"Wow. That was quick. Where do you get this stuff? I only found out a couple of hours ago. And remember that overnights are a small barometer and not officially anything but they do represent some form of hard data. Good news though. Now we need everyone to keep it up."
SO SAY WE ALL AARON! KR

Fantastic news KR- I feel myself weakening in my commitment not to get too involved until renewal is certain..
As for Emmy's..eh don't count on it. Sci-fi is generally cold-shouldered by the elitist group that would rather nominate the same actors and shows every year as opposed to being controversial and new. My feeling is that a sci-fi show has to go beyond cult(BUFFY) and into mainstram(X-FILES) with all of the massive ratings involved to force a nomination. Further, I strongly believe that if the BUFFY ep THE BODY could fail to net the IMO REQUIRED noms, it'll be a cold day in hell before other deserving sci-fi shows will.
Which sucks. Plainly.

Plainly. -Shawn The situation is quite different with BSG because Olmos and McDonnell are such highly regarded actors already. Both have Academy Award nominations for Best Actor/Actress on their resume. The Television Academy loves handing out Emmys to those recognized by the Motion Picture Academy. It gives the Television Academy added presige to get those individuals Emmys. It's a Hollywood political thing. Olmos and McDonald will win Emmy's for their roles. It's a question of who from the series they bring with them to the Awards Platform. Will Olmos and McDonald's individual prestige carry BSG to the Awards's platform for Best Drama. How about Katee Sackhoff for Best Supporting Actress? (You have a lot of women in the Television Academy that would LOVE to cast a vote for a female fighter pilot role) Micheal Hogan or James Callis for Best Supporting Actor?

I'm hoping that the ratings for the second season (and hopefully a season 3) would also be great. I think Sci-Fi will make a BSG spin-of, if the ratings are such successful for the following season(s).

Well, that could be but Stargate SG-1 has alredy a spin-of and both series have a very good quality.

I agree, scifi execs would be foolish to even consider a spin-off in years to come. It would definitely water down the story if we had a separate Pegasus series. I think Moore will defy any attempts of this happening. Look at how bad B5's spin- offs were eventhough it was one of the greatest sci fi series ever. Ok Crusade could have been good if it wasn't for network execs interfering with it so early in its run.

This is really good news, but (and i really hate to be a fly in the ointment here) has anyone thought that maybe some of the die-hard TOS-ers tuned in just to see what part the producers had given Richard Hatch? (Just a thought. A dreadful, pitiful, nagging, little thought that would not stay in my head!)

Personally, I think some of the die-hard TOS fans are tuning in every week as there is nothing else on & they are curious to see what's happening- even if it means they are increasing the ratings for the show! KR

KR To be honest I think some TOSers are fans of TNS, but won't admit it, and act like they hate it even more because of that (sort of like how some gays act homophobic). I actually think Kingfish may be one of these, based on the fact that his comments are usually attacking, but now and then he'll slip in a compliment. xsorbit26.com/users5/languatron/index.php?topic=206.0LANGUATRON STRIKES AGAIN!
