Official US-UK version differences thread

Thanks Basestar I like the UK version better it is a much more haunting melody. However, the US version is growing on me.

So Say We All! The atmospheric, precussion-heavy, NYPD Blue-esque score is perfectly fine as background music during the show. But a theme needs a good, hummable, catchy tune. Even Crusade, NYPD Blue, and most other shows with this sort of music have opening themes that are at least somewhat hummable. The UK theme comes closer to this than the US one, but man oh man, it's nowhere near as cool as the original Larson/Phillips theme from the Classic series.

Would that have been ep 12, "Kobal's Last Gleaming Part 1"? There are at least two different versions of that ep on the net; the "uncut" one is about two minutes longer, although I haven't watched either yet (and won't for a while, since I'm trying not to jump ahead of the US airings). Anyone seen both?

There was nothing edited out or added, the only differences were no sky one watermark, it played at a slower frame rate and no add break logo, it played straight through, hence 'uncut'. The quality is not as good as the PDTV.

Sorry, didn't think at the time, just kinda assumed people would figure it out from when I posted it and entirely forgot to think that people would come to be reading it at a later date. But yeah, I Kobol's Last Gleaming Part 1 it was

That seems to be the question of the day among viewers of the series that started a couple of weeks ago on the U.S. Sci Fi Channel. As we've reported since last year, fans with access to various peer-to-peer systems have been able to download Galactica episodes as they've aired on the SKY One channel in the UK. Now that the series has begun its US run, fans have been noticing some subtle differences between the two version, leading to speculation that the versions running on the Sci Fi Channel may actually be longer than those seen in the UK.

According to representatives for Sci Fi, the episodes themselves have exactly the same content as those seen in the UK. Some fans have reported lines of dialogue present in the Sci Fi broadcasts that weren't present in the versions distributed on the popular P2P services like Direct Connect and BitTorrent. So far, every example pointed out to us has turned out to be a case of mis-remembering by the person making the allegation. Every episode checked by IGNFF was identical to its UK counterpart in story content.

The reason fans began looking for changes can be found at the start of every episode that airs on Sci Fi. The theme music for the US broadcasts has been changed for some reason that is currently unknown to everyone. The general consensus among viewers of the series that have heard both versions is that the new theme music blows. No comment from Sci Fi on why the music was changed but they would be well advised to go back to the UK version.

Ign are slightly wrong. Some UK showings have been edited by Sky - the 5pm and 6pm repeats did not include some of the steamier sexy scenes.

However, the first run episodes I can believe are the same, bar the theme music and titles.

But there is the mystery of the Starbuck briefing. In the UK premiere version of Bastille Day she definitely does not tell Flattop that he has been using the wrong hand, or whatever the masturbation innuendo was. I just watched it. If US viewers say that she did, then IGN are wrong (and so are Sci-Fi)

This is not so much a difference as of yet, but in Flesh and Bone a scene was deleted where Starbuck examines a Cylon transceiver found on Leoben, however, during the Previously on BSG segment, at the beginning of Kobol Last Gleaming, Part I, it is included in the review.

They really do need to go back to the UK music.

On another forum I just read that in the US version of Episode 4 there's about 30 seconds more of Boxey-Starbuck interaction..can anyone confirm that?
