Would Moore be brave enough to have Gaeda be a gay Cylon ? Surely that raises the issue of Cylon sexuality full stop. Now THERE's a whole new can of worms with some millipedes and cheesy bugs thrown in. ;D

I don't know if a homosexual character is necessary. Generally they represent what, 2% of the population? That means out of 50 characters, 1 would be gay. It makes sense if the show is about homosexuals (like Will and Grace) or is just trying really hard to show a diversity of sexuality (like Dawson's Creek) but in a sci-fi action/drama I don't know how relevant it would be. I don't think the military on the show would be anti-homosexual, because after all, they allow women in combat and men and women to work togethor.

If a show like BSG simply must tackle the issue of homosexuality, it should do so the way B5 did: as if it's a complete non-issue. B5 touched on gay issues twice: With the slowly developed relationship between Ivanova and Talia, which was tragically cut off immediately after it finally got going; and with a one-off joke about Marcus and Stephen traveling incognito under false ID by masquerading as a young married couple. No one shunned Ivanova or Talia for their relationship, and neither of them apparently saw it as at all odd that a deepening friendship finally turned physical and romantic. Neither Marcus nor Stephen was embarassed at being mistaken for a gay couple, instead merely being embarassed to be even imaginarily married at all to someone they had no such interest in. All parties in each relationship are also shown as having emphatic romantic interest in hetero partners elsewhere in the series.

Even more brave (pun) would be to have Caprica Boomer and BSG Boomer become lovers and raise the child! Can you date your self?

If there's a gay character, fine, as long as it's a character and not a Sitcom Token Gay Plot Device™. Kinda like Ivanova on B5 - she's the second in command, she's a latent telepath, she's a Russian Jew, she's cynical, she's bisexual. That is, a real person who's comprised of many, many traits instead of Friends-style 'Ross is geeky and timid', 'Chandler makes wisecracks', 'Joey is stupid and promiscuous'. As for Gaeta, I thought it was spelled 'Gayda' the first time I heard it

Well, he does seem to be very fond of Baltar Though that would be a horrible pun if he really was gay. Ugh...Gayda and Gayus....I always hate it when authors use names of characters to telegraph future plot developments...like naming a Werewolf "Lupin". It drives drives home the fact that this is fiction, ruins suspension of disbelief for me.
