So, what happened to Kat....? (I know Chuckles bought the farm, along with Fireball (Like no one could see that coming, with a callsign like that...!) and at least one other trainee, a woman. But which woman?

Hotdog didn't die in the episode. As a matter of fact the last scene with strike one, when they were ordered to turn around and re-engage, Hotdog is seen blasting one of the Raiders to bits and pieces. I loved the episode. Great acting and great scenes. Simply great sci fi. Billy Lordshadowz Then who was that first pilot that died?

I think some of the "unrecognizable" pilots that die are the ones we see behind the first row in "Starbucks" briefing room. I know Hot Dog, Kat & Chuckles are always in the first row. The guys in the 2,3 & 4 rows are kinda like those guys in Star Trek in the red shirts. When they beam down to the planet, you know they aren't coming back! ;D

Did anyone notice that Fireball looked a little like Chief Tyrol?

This was a great episode. I likes how they used an unorthodox attack plan to mess with the Cylons. The whole Caprica Sharon getting knocked up thing seems like an interesting story line. Oh and poor poor Chuckles got wasted, oh well with such a cool callsign who didn’t see that one coming from a mile away.

Does anybody else find it just a bit coincidental that on both occasions it was Boomer (the Cylon!!) driving the bus? Hmmmm.
I don't know who the female pilot was that died, but Kat pulled through. She was the one who yelled at Apollo that he was crazy right before he flew into the conveyor tunnel.
The reveal of the vipers hidden in the freighter was very artfully done, including the flip of perspective. After all, in space there is no up or down. Beautifully shot.
Kara's plan however, wasn't really as out-of-the-box as she played it up to be. In fact, you could very well call it a textbook tactic. Hiding the second attack force was only a minor tweak on the VERY old -- even archaic -- use of a Forlorn Hope. Forlorn Hopes have been in use for centuries to draw out enemy defenses, expose booby traps, and act as decoys while opening the way for the main attack force to follow up and complete the job. The term "Forlorn Hope" was adapted from the Dutch "Verlorene Hoop", meaning a "lost troop"... since the job of the Forlorns was usually tantamount to a suicide mission. First into the breach, and first to die. Tigh wasn't just being grim when he said the attack would cost them. Attack Force One was essentially being sacrificed to allow Apollo's group to gain access to the asteroid.

Starbuck outwitted the Cylons.... Apollo outflew Starbuck......Roslin is assuming the role of Moses....and Baltar has got his religion ON. What more could you ask for? The episode rocked.
Just one errant thought that crossed my mind. Why did the Raiders withdraw from their attack? Why didnt the Cylons jump in some baseships to attack Galactica?
Did the Galactica have a 33 minute grace period to pick up ore?
MHall probably had the best fix for this problem;

Lt. Gaeta is in charge of what raptor goes where. Hmmmm.
Actually, internal Six probably had the best fix:
SIX: All of this has happened before. All of this will happen again. BALTAR: Everyone knows that verse. What are you getting at? SIX: Remember this one? "Led by serpents numbering two and ten." BALTAR: The vipers... they're the serpents. SIX: There's a later verse, Gaius, you should read it. "Though the outcome favored the few, it led to a confrontation at the home of the gods." BALTAR: Are you telling me that god guided my finger to that target for some... arcane scriptural purpose? SIX: You are part of god's plan, Gaius. BALTAR: So god wanted me to destroy the Cylon base. SIX: You did well. You gave yourself over to him. BALTAR: Yes, suppose I did. Yes, there's-- there's really no other logical explanation for it. I was-- SIX: Am... BALTAR: I am an instrument of god.
Baltar's conclusion is quite illogical. Six's reference to Colonial scripture suggests that the Cylons are trying to force the myths into reality. So that is why the Cylons bugged out, despite having numerical superiority. Baltar should conclude that the Cylons blew up their own base after Apollo likely hit the wrong spot. And indeed, if we watch closely, we can see that Apollo's missile causes a small explosion on one side of the base and then a split second later an explosion on the other side of the base is the main explosion that destroys it. It's a small sacrifice for the Cylons to make to set up a "confontation at the home of the gods," I guess.

Does anybody else find it just a bit coincidental that on both occasions it was Boomer (the Cylon!!) driving the bus? Hmmmm. SPOILER ALERT! For some reason, I can't get the font coloring to change so I'll be as general as possible. I have NOT seen KLG yet, but based on what spoilers I've read, and what was written for the first 2 episodes for Season 2, AND Six's discussion with Baltar about being guided by God, its possible that Boomer is the one finding these jackpots just when the fleet needs them because the Cylons are guiding them towards Kobol. Remember in TOS pilot, they realized that the Cylons were purposefully corraling them towards Carillon for a specific purpose. Perhaps the same is happening in TNS for the same thing. From what we know about Boomer finding the water and the fuel, and what happens in KLG2, its possible all of this is part of the Cylons main plan all along. They've "herded" the fleet to Kobol, got one of their sleeper cylons to perform an act that throws the entire fleet into chaos and they manage (according to possibly storyline for season 2) get on board. The only part that still puzzles me is why is Caprica-Boomer pregnant after just one time with Helo and yet Six never got pregnant after all the times she was with Baltar (the Six from the miniseries on Caprica before the destruction)

Biologically Caprica-Boomer's morning sickness is unlikely to be due to Helo. Mythologically, Caprica-Boomer cannot be pregnant by Helo. (She is Aphrodite, and he is Hephaestus. They were married, but had no children.) Tyrol is the father, IMO. That Caprica-Boomer is Tyrol's Galactica Boomer. And one Galactica Boomer is also the same person - I mean a copy thereof. Minor spoiler for Ep 12 KLG1 about raptor searches: Gaeta plots Boomer's jump to a planet, which, as you might guess from the episode title, turns out to be Kobol. Boomer comments that Gaeta plotted the jump.
Also, take note of Galactica Boomer at the end of Ep 11 versus beginning of Ep 12.

There just one problem with your mythological factoring. In the mini series, Boomer and Helo landed on Caprica after their raptor was damaged. Boomer took off with a load full of people and left Helo behind. Boomer and the people (including Baltar) ended up on Colonial One and eventually Galactica after they joined the fleet in an FTL jump to Ragnar. This is the Boomer that is now what we call Galactica Boomer. I think we can probably assume that this version of Boomer is the one that has been on Galactica all along and is the one involved with Tyrol. Nothing in the mini series suggested that she snuck back to Caprica to save Helo. The Boomer on Caprica is one of the other versions of Boomer. She just "showed up" I think it was within hours after Helo escapes from the cylons and another version of Six. Since that time, Caprica Boomer has been with Helo. She's the ONLY Boomer that has been with Helo. Now I can't remember exactly how many days its been since Boomer and Helo had sex, but I know some women have morning sickness within a few days of conception. Its just the way their bodies are. With the fact that this episode is the first one we see Boomer actually being sick could very well be because she is pregnant...by Helo.
