There probably are a few nods to Top Gun. We'll have to see if Moore ever confirms this. Thanks CaseOrange- I like your observations of Crashdown too, but think that he is human. Why? If he is Cylon and gained information about the detector from Six, why would he need to ask about its progress? I think he mentioned something about Cylons looking like humans in a prev episode, so maybe he is just a rumor monger?

I think Crashdown is human. One of the things I loved about the mini was how all this stuff was going on and no one new the "offical" word from the govrenment. Everyone just gets bits and pieces and rumors and forms they're own "truths". I work in a factory where we have a union and it seems like everyday when I get to work there is some type of rumor going around. The company is doing this...The Union is doing that... In the time I've been at this job I've heard more rumors of plant closings then Baltar has dreams about number Six. So it makes sense that in a small enviorment, on board a Battlestar, in a tense situation, running for survival, that rumors would be flying left and right. I think this is a case of Crash being all too human. All though I do like the idea of "a refugee from Triton" being kind of a stock answer to cover up someones past.

Hey I was wondering if it was just me or did anyone else notice some nods in this episode to Top Gun? During the card game Gaius mentions something about someone stinking... ("Slider you stink") Starbuck to the nuggets goes on about never leaving your wingman ("You never leave your wingman") Hot dog flipping his pen in the briefing (just like Iceman, Val Kilmer) Starbuck has confidence issues due to guilt over the death of Zak (Maverick struggles with taking the shot after the death of his co-pilot Goose) Flight instructor Starbuck gets involved with a student Zak (kind of in reverse, but Kelly McGillis and Tom Cruise hook up) I realize this might be reaching. ..but if others agree I think this is a part of what makes the show great! I never really noticed any Top Gun nods, but the part where Starbuck goes, "My name is Starbuck, but you can call me God," reminded me of Men of Honor. The scene where Robert Deniro goes, "My name is Master-Chief Billy Sunday, and I AM GOD!"

No Viperace, you weren't wrong to laugh-I thought the drone/missile scene was hysterical!!! That stupid wagon thing deal was kind of weird & when that drone took off at them I almost died of laughter!!! when me & my wife were watching the recording of it in the morning, she thought the scene was a flashback & the guy in the wagon thing was Zac.-She was like, man-I thought Zac would of went out more heroically or dignified than that! ;D I still thought it was a great episode.

The scene where Robert Deniro goes, "My name is Master-Chief Billy Sunday, and I AM GOD!" This episode crams a lot of good references- Is a court marshall episode in the works? I'd like to hear Eddie Olmos say "You can't handle the truth!" ala Jack Nicholson in a Few Good Men ...but I won't hold my breath!

This ep was frakin' brilliant! ;D I agree with Dangermouse that it still wasn't as good as "33", but it was the best after that. I really shouldn't rate or compare any eps, for they are all perfect so far. I had tears in my eyes during the Cmdr. Adama & Starbuck scene, talk about intense. I know that they will eventually resolve this, but I don't think that Adama will ever feel the same about Kara. Their relationship has been forever changed! Is Baltar the man or what?! He rocks when playing cards, which makes me think that he's finally found a refuge (albeit a temporary one) from Six. At the table, he is the cool one, & is the man in control, being that he is of superior intellect. I can't wait 'til next Friday, 6 frakin' days!!

OK, things I loved about this ep:
1. It was great to see Adama/Starbuck/Apollo so relaxed and happy in the beginning. It's great to have some tension relief, and of course they wouldn't always be getting in each other's faces. Especially with Apollo and Starbuck. It's great to see them doing "friend" things and having a good time, not just "I confess your brother died because of me" or "take your meds" type stuff (good as that is). Though of course it seems that the law of BSG is if someone is having a good time, really bad stuff is about to happen!
2. I loved the empty seats (subtle and no beating over the head) and Apollo's halting speech as contrasted wth Adama's rousing one.
3. The mass funeral intercut with Zac's funeral flashback.
4. Kara's confession. Wow. Wow. Wow. Wow.
5. Apollo's "Step. Back." Yay!
6. The fight scenes.

This was pointed out to me on another board... ... anyone notice Starbuck's altimeter was *climbing* in the re-entry scenes? Oooops.

I think he mentioned something about Cylons looking like humans in a prev episode, so maybe he is just a rumor monger? i had forgotten about that. It was in "Water" and it was when Boomer yelled at him. It still makes me wonder how he came out of nowhere and seemed to know all these rumors. A friend of mine says that it's because there are no real secrets in the military except the highly classified ones. Maybe i'm starting to get caught up in the "Guess Who's The Cylon" game.

It may not have been an altimeter, but rather a rate-of-descent meter. Nope, it was the altimeter. It would have pegged scale high if it was a rate-of-climb/descent meter, not spun multiple times around the dial.

This was a great episode, still doesn't beat "33" though but this episode shows the characters are starting to really take shape in the series. What's that picture they always touch when they walk into the ready room? One of the gods of Cobol?

What's that picture they always touch when they walk into the ready room? One of the gods of Cobol? I doubt it's a programmer. (Sorry, normally I don't spelling-flame, but this time I couldn't resist a bad pun) I don't know if it's one of the Lords of Kobol, but two things I noticed... 1.) The pic on close inspection looks like a guy in pilot gear kneeling in anguish in front of a burning city skyline. If it dates to Kobol, it's likely some image of the cataclysm that forced the original colonists to flee. Perhaps it's a reminder of Helo, or just the destruction of the Colonies in general? 2.) I swear I saw a bigger, framed version of the pic hanging behind Roslin's desk on Colonial One, but I can't recall which ep that was in.

This episode was awesome and is my favorite so far.
Best Thing: The scene between Starbuck and Adama where she confesses her involvement in Zack's death. I don't tend to "interact" with the T.V. much. . . or at all really. But when Adama added, "while you still can." I literally yelled at the T.V., "Get the f#@k out!" This scene really showcases the brilliance of casting EJO as Adama, even though I was one person who up until the min aired questioned that decision.
Worst Thing: The flashback right at the beginning. Flashbacks don't bother me, but between the first scene being a flashback, the "previously on. . . bit", the normal credits, and the little opening preview snippet of that episode - it really made figuring out what was going on very confusing for a couple minutes. I think probably they need to clean up the opening a bit.
