The scene between Kara and Adama in the office is hands down the most intense scene I have seen in this series so far. Its so cool, and somewhat weird, to see how innocent Kara is when she's isn't being Starbuck. Katee Sackhoff deserves something for her performance in that episode. Olmos' perfromance in that scene was awesome as well, his heavy breathing really added validity to what was going on. You could tell he was holding back so much. When he told Kara to leave I was like so afraid for her and sad for Adama.
Even though nothing changed about her character, in the flashbacks visually, I somehow felt that Kara looked a bit different. It could have been the lighting and costume, but even then she just seemed a bit younger.
I also liked the poker scene. The idea of Baltar fraternizing with the pilots seems very much like him. It was like they played poker every week or so and he was just the smart, strange professor dude. I think Baltar always knows where the social scene is anywhere he goes. Also kind of broke up the main plot, allowing for some break. Its also the first scene in which Baltar isn't talking to Six as well... Not that I think its a bad thing that he always does just nice to see him somewhat sober.
Just some first impressions. Great show! Can't wait to see what happens in part 2. I don't think Rosilin likes the idea of Adama and Apollo looking for Starbuck. Should be interesting to see who wins out on that conflict... ;D
GAH its a two-parter! No fair! I want more!

Another outstanding episode.
And another major SF show cast member shows up 2 Degrees from sit-com "Benson."
We finally saw the Dr. Cottle in this episode. Dr Cottle was played by Donnelly Rhodes, who played Dutch Leitner on Soap. Soap was the show Benson spun off from. Benson cast members are strewn all over the universe. Rene Auberjonois was Odo on DS9, and Ethan Phillips was Neelix on Voyager.

Excellent performances all round. Losing more pilots was heartbreaking.

I haven't seen that since like the 60's-70's. I hope his tools are clean...

Oh and when the missile came flying off the rack I just couldn’t stop laughing...is that wrong? i think someone said that that was a drone that went off. I couldn't believe it, even that tight a** Gaietta was playing cards! Was he playing cards or just sitting in? It seems like he was just there because his hero (Baltar) was there.

Did anyone notice the hummers driving around the caprica military base. Someone better call GM! Yup, those were definitely the truck variant of the Hummer. And also some of those Canadian-built LAV-60's that the USMC also uses. The Hummertrucks were a bit more jarring than the LAV-60's, if only because there aren't a lot of civilian variants of the LAV-60's running around on our highways filled up with guys with small packages. Almost as jarring as the Hummers was the fact that the scene was so blatantly obviously filmed just outside a studio soundstage. I kept expecting to see some production assistants walk past pushing a rack of coustumes or a klieg light. And when I saw Dr. Cottle, I kept thinking, "Man, he looks so much older since I saw him in Danger Bay". I think a childhood of ex-Canadian shows on the Disney channel has permanently warped me. Heh...think we can get Ocean Hellman to come in and play Nurse Chapel to his Dr. McCoy? ;D

Hey I was wondering if it was just me or did anyone else notice some nods in this episode to Top Gun?
During the card game Gaius mentions something about someone stinking... ("Slider you stink")
Starbuck to the nuggets goes on about never leaving your wingman ("You never leave your wingman")
Hot dog flipping his pen in the briefing (just like Iceman, Val Kilmer)
Starbuck has confidence issues due to guilt over the death of Zak (Maverick struggles with taking the shot after the death of his co-pilot Goose)
Flight instructor Starbuck gets involved with a student Zak (kind of in reverse, but Kelly McGillis and Tom Cruise hook up)
I realize this might be reaching. ..but if others agree I think this is a part of what makes the show great!

During the card game Gaius mentions something about someone stinking... ("Slider you stink") He asks if Crashdown stinks. This, IMHO, he does to change the subject, which was Crashdown asking about a Cylon detector that Baltar and Gaeta were supposedly working on. Starbuck to the nuggets goes on about never leaving your wingman ("You never leave your wingman") i think this is pretty much standard procedure throughout most military air forces. There probably are a few nods to Top Gun. We'll have to see if Moore ever confirms this.

I loved how Olmos was able to convey the emotions of Rage and Heartbreak into one single glare during that scene between him and Starbuck. Great drama. Can't wait until next weeks episode now. I wish we could get a little more of Helo and Boomer 2 on Caprica then just a few minutes each week. Oh well, I'm sure they're building to getting Helo back with the fleet, or at least contacting Galactica to give up their location. Another episode that validates why I have so much love for this show. I pray for season two.

Now, my next candidate for undercover Cylon, based upon the first four episodes: Crashdown. Why? How did he know about the work on the Cylon detector? Gaeta even seems taken aback by this line of questioning from Crashdown. Maybe Gaeta is feigning naivete to save face (mainly Baltar's), but i doubt it. At the meeting in "Water" Baltar objects to Gaeta being assigned to him as an assistant because of the secrecy of the project (among other reasons). Besides, doesn't Boomer refer to him as "just a refugee from Triton". Perhaps this is a case of one sleeper Cylon providing a vague but acceptable background for another Cylon so as to throw off any unwanted attention.
