I could have sworn that in the miniseries the dialogue claimed the Astral Queen was taking the prisoners to a penal colony, not back to Caprica for parole hearings.
Hmmm...checking Ashoka1's excellent transcript of the miniseries, from the scene at 0:56:58...
Billy Keikeya: "Uhhh the captain of the Astral Queen wants to you to know he's got nearly 500 convicted criminals under heavy guard in his cargo hold. They were being transported to a penal station when the attack happened."
Now, one COULD fudge things and say that the penal station was an orbital station above Caprica dedicated to prisoner transfers between spacefaring prison ships like the Astral Queen and atmospheric shuttles to take them down to the surface for hearings and release and so forth, but it sure sounded like they were outbound, not inbound.
Minor continuity goof, but these things are just as easy to get right as they are to get wrong...

I really enjoyed this one. I think the two Apollos did a great job. I never really got into TOS of Galactica but the new series is just amazing, both visually and performance wise. I hope they continue for at least 5 more seasons.

I'll keep it clean of spoilers, but I didn't see the turn in the plan coming at all. Outstanding, and don't forget...

Great episode for character development. I loved all the stuff between Apollo and Zarek. Seeing Lee standing up to not only the old man but, also President Roslyin was a really cool moment for him. I like the idea that he is commited more to doing the right thing then just following orders. It was also nice to see a few of the "second teir" characters: Cally, Billy, Duella, get some screen time. I just hope we get more Tom Zarek in the future. Richard Hatch has a great role, I hope they let us see more of it. I also wonder if the election storyline will come this season or next.

I am happy with the character development. There really are no "minor" roles...everyone makes an impression and every line is important. Callie kicks butt. Loved Tigh "starting his day." Even Boxey was good.
Great episode, too many commercials. I watch BSG "live" then again on VCR so I can FF commercials.

I watched it and laughed so hard at times I almost hurt myself. We see Paul Tigh on the sauce. We also see Michael Hogan without a shirt. He is playing a character in his late 40's to early 50's. I don't think so. We see both Boxey and Kara mocking the good Colonel. We also see Starbuck in sun glasses. Between the cigar and the glasses she looks like a total idiot. My god this is great sci fi. It sucks. I am sorry to be the party pooper but it is bad. They need a 1000 men to go and get the ice to make water. They also pass a planet. I remember Ron saying no planet of the week stories. Lee Adama must convince Zarak to help him but Tom is too concerned about other things, he is a slave who is trying to help his people gain their rights. Zaraek is suppossed to be complicated. Zarek is this and that. Zarek is the character the original Apollo wasn't on the original, darker more realistic. Blah...blah blah. IMHO what Hatch didn't like about the original character was Starbuck grabbed most of the stories because Benedict can give performance after performance and never bore one to death. Zarek doesn't want peaceful elections but wants a bloodbath which Lee makes sure he doesn't get. Zarek lives to fight another day. This is after the audience is treated to the origins of the name Apollo. This was another futile attempt to show something that isn't there. they can put the originals on in guest roles but this will never be a show that os fans can relate to. As a prequel or true remake it could have worked. I also noticed Glen Larson's name as consulting producer I believe. Yes he must be given credit because the original was his idea. The studio might own all of the characters and so on but they don't own what is in his head. It is similar to a writer who pens a novel. If joe schmoe comes along and writes the same thing without permission it is plagarizim. On a final note, many didn't want the Desanto version because hatch had a cameo at the end. I was one of those FOOLS. The DeSanto version would have benn ten times better then this dribble we are being told is great scifi.

IMHO, there hasn't been a bad episode yet! The only thing that bothers me is the prisoner head-count inconsistency. Was it that long between the Mini and "33" (real-time wise) that Moore forgot what he wrote? Or maybe there is an explanation (more people have been incarcerated since the attack for other offenses, or to "cool their heels"). Was i the only one who was rooting for Starbuck to blow Zarek's head off? When she had the lazer sight on his head, i was almost yelling at the tv, "Shoot him! Shoot him!". Maybe there's too much sympathy for terrorists in the real world that i really wanted to see a fictional one die a dog's death. Am i the only one who likes Col. Tigh? Sure he's a royal jerk, but, like he said on "33", if the crew doesn't hate the X-O, he's not doing his job. i just like the way he shut Starbuck up when she brought him some water; to wit, "My flaws are personal; yours are professional". Speaking of that scene, Starbuck says (in reference to the water), "There's more where that came from". Are we to assume, then, that by the end of the episode the prisoners have begun "mining" (for lack of a better term) the ice for water? If so, how much time has passed since the end of the prisoner uprising and the end of the show? My other nominations for best scenes are Apollo confronting Adama and Roslin, and Six when she is yelling at Baltar. i thought these scenes were big leaps in character development for Apollo and Six. Overall, another great episode. Only six more days till it's time to rev up the VCR again!

IMHO, there hasn't been a bad episode yet! IMO 'Bastille Day' is the weakest of all the episodes to date (UK on ep 11)

Great ep all around. Hatch exceeded my expectations so he was a joy to watch. Lot's of people (U.S.) comparing this one to the two eps last week, & let me just say now that "33" will probably never be topped! That was the single best hour of TV that I have ever had the pleasure of viewing. I won't compare "Bastille Day" to the previous 2 because this one was different, we're finally getting down to telling the story of how this "rag-tag" fleet is going to get along with each other, not just how they're going to survive. I disagree wholeheartedly with something caseOrange said previously in his post about how Zarek should have been shot down like a dog & that too much sympathy is given to terrorists. There are some people in history that have been labeled terrorists, but some, I repeat, SOME of them truly are freedom fighters. Nelson Mandela is a prime example. He was imprisoned because he was fighting for the rights of an oppressed people. I'm sure that Mandela or any "freedom fighter" that feels cornered would probably resort to kidnapping or violence if they had no other way of getting through to someone that will listen. I AM IN NO WAY CONDONING VIOLENCE. George Washington, the father of my country, if he had lost the revolution, would've hanged for his "violent and treasonous" acts! There is always a fine line, & sometimes it is crossed. Now, take Islamic Fundamentalist terrorists, they are real wackjobs! There whole fight is about a book that was written 14 or so centuries ago, & their myopic views come from a skewed view of the world according to their Koran. Zarek's fight seems to be about direct acts taken to oppress people of his colony. Religion does not seem to be the root of it, & a couple of people that seem intelligent (Lee & Billy), seem to give some credence to Zarek's plight. Just my 2 cubits.

Prepare yourself to be very suprised then Really? Ihope you're right. I have been a scifi fan since I was little & no other episode of TV has ever affected me the way that "33" did. Both "Water" & "Bastille Day" were excellent, but "33" will always be with me. Ronald D. "Freakin" Moore - So say we all!

So you dug it, right? Some of it was quite good. James Callis' scenes are excellent. McDonell and Olmos are also a plus for the series. The Cally rape scene was cut out. All that was shown was the guy with his ear bit off. Cally was shown as being shot.
