Lonegunman of Aintitcoolnews has reviewed Ep 11 www.aintitcool.com/display.cgi?id=19107The first episode of the new ongoing “Battlestar: Galactica” series finally gets its U.S. premiere on the SciFi Channel this Friday. The Brits, meanwhile, got episode 11 on Monday night. Here’s “LoneGunMan” with an appraisal: Hi Harry and Herc, well, we've just had Galactica 1.11 in the UK, and what a doozy... really cool stuff again, and we have adverts during this episode for the Farscape: Peacekeeper Wars (finally here in the UK)... Geek overload!! Battlestar Galactica 1.11 FAQ What’s it called? "Colonial Day." How does it begin? The President is reinstating the old "Council of Twelve" just like in the classic series, and the peoples of each planet have nominated their planet's representatives. Caprica's representative is Baltar (much to his surprise), though the real problem comes from the representative from Sagitaron, Tom Zarek, once again played with excellent panache by the original Apollo, Richard Hatch. The President, as you can imagine, is not happy... especially when he manages to get himself nominated to run for Vice President. That loading a gun into a briefcase at the beginning of a Presidential Summit, this is "24" again isn't it? Well, we've had "A Few Good Men" and "Iron Eagle", this did look to be a 24 style from the beginning, but the whole assassination plot is quickly caste aside in favor of political machinations. The Sagitaron people are all in support of Zarek's agenda, but despite his logical and sensible policies, the current administration can only see his terrorist past, looking into any means to stop his bid for power. So what else is going on then? On Caprica, Helo starts to realize (with the appearance of another Six last week) that the Cylons can look like humans. His hostile reaction to this revelation upsets Boomer v2, but when they reach the Caprica spaceport to steal a ship, then everything is really frakked up for him. What happens? The President is so determined that Zarek will not be Vice President, she grooms a potential contender. Her ruthless side is seen when she discards him for the more popular Baltar. There's a sub plot of the potential assassin being captured by Starbuck and Apollo (assigned to security duty), and being silenced by someone for Zarek, hints are thrown in the direction of the manipulative Mrs Tigh, but nothing is obvious. What's Good? Baltar is fantastic again, with another excellent bathroom scene. Richard Hatch proves his worth once again with another admirable performance. I'd really like him to make a more significant role in season two, and maybe convince some of the other classic series actors to take part. And, to top it all off, you get to see Starbuck in rather elegant dress... she scrubs up pretty fine. What's Bad? The music is a little hammy in places. The journalists issue has been addressed with a comment about how people are unable to move away from their old careers, clinging to the jobs they had in the past (hence, with Caprica One being full of journalists, I guess that's why there are so many of them about), but it's just very odd that there are so many journalists about. Never really relied on them in the classic series! How does it end? Oh man, the world is gonna end... Baltar is made Vice President. Zarek reminds the President that an election is due in six months and he'll see her then... and on Caprica, Helo is discovered by another Boomer. Boomer v2 (the one that may be pregnant) shoots the other Boomer, but it's too late, Helo knows she's a Cylon and runs off... “LoneGunMan’s” rating for “Battlestar Galactica” 1.11? ****1/2 The Hercules T. Strong Rating System: ***** better than we deserve **** better than most motion pictures *** actually worth your valuable time ** as horrible as most stuff on TV * makes you quietly pray for bulletins

If u havnt seen it and don't want to be spoiled dont look ---------------------
--------------------- 1st off i missed the 1st 10 minutes but I did enjoy the show
I did yeah but I love jack so ill let them off.
That was my initial thought when roslin was discussing the candidate i kept shouting baltar knowing how much 6 would love for him to have power that big.
Also great ep for Richard Hatch and i'm looking forward to seeing how his relationship with tighs missus will develop i think possibly she had valance (i think is how u spell it) killed, the Helo/Boomer stuff really good this time (grace park wet - allways good ;D ) And I liked how he finally put the pieces together.
But i have to say i was surprised with the exterior shots of the Intersun Liner I thought it looked very bland and the white dome was unconvincing - it could have been better but all in all thats my only major gripe.

A Syfi Portal Review by Alan Stanley Blair
The following review contains MAJOR SPOILERS of "Battlestar Galactica."
After watching the 10th episode of the reimagined "Battlestar Galactica" series, I could only take a look back.
In previous reviews, I said that some episodes, like "Bastille Day" and "Six Degrees of Separation", were blends of smart stories, well-executed directing, terrific acting and stunning special effects.
More often than not, however, the stories were anti-climactic, the documentary-style camera bobbing became aggravating after the first five minutes and the stunning effects were nothing more than icing on the cake with very little substance behind them.
If you have read my earlier reviews of the series, then you'll know I wasn't an instant fan. The series had potential, but it took most of the season for it to be tapped into. So when I say "The Hand Of God" was nothing less than an action-packed melee of superb writing, top-notch acting, great effects, all the juicy character interactions you would want and a climax which is worth the wait, I mean it.
The episode was beautifully crafted. Galactica has found herself in another pickle. Hard to believe given that the last of the human race is now on the run from a race of killing machines and they are looking for a home which may not exist. But there you have it. Fuel is running low, and there is only enough for a few more jumps before they are dead in the water.
But like all problems like this, there is a dangerous and equally rewarding solution -- the Cylons have a mine with all the fuel they could need to last for years. So do they risk civilians to seize it, or take their chances with whatever resources they have left?
Well the episode would be a boring one indeed if they chose to continue on their merry way without even trying to tackle the Cylons. And if that happened, then the following episodes would only see what's left of the entire human civilization running out of fuel and starving to death.
So they go after the Cylons using a dangerous and equally cunning plan devised by Starbuck (Katee Sackhoff). Her scenes in the episode seem to be with either Apollo (Jamie Bamber) or Cmdr. William Adama (Edward James Olmos) -- dynamics which have been explored in previous episodes, but which are all still compulsive viewing. Olmos himself gets a bit more depth than usual, picking up on a plotline which has rarely been touched since the miniseries: how he feels about his son.
In the four-hour miniseries, there was a harshly distant relationship between the two as a result of Zack Adama's death. Over the course of the series, however, Apollo has obviously come to accept his brother's fate and also accept his father for who he is.
Unfortunetely, however, the comedy stylings of Number Six (Tricia Helfer) and Baltar (James Calis) were vaguely touched. But their scenes together were no less important, and in fact done more for insight into both characters than all of their moments to-date.
All in all, the episode was engrossing from start to finish and will leave you wanting more. The story was sound, the directing was wonderfully done, the cast all rose to the challenge, and the special effects were nothing less than astoundingly gripping. This is what I was expecting from the miniseries. This is what I was hoping for with the series. But the real challenge however is topping this installment with the season finale in a few weeks time.

EDITOR'S NOTE: "Battlestar Galactica" currently is airing in the United Kingdom on Sky One, as part of that satellite company's agreement with Sci-Fi Channel to produce the series. It premieres in the United States on the Sci-Fi Channel, and in Canada on Space this month.

Fantastic ep totally agree with AICN's review once again well acted and well written, The viper stuff really was fantastic to to watch I can see why some ppl may refer to appollos trip through the conveyor a throwback to Star Wars but as Blade Runner said he just used it to duck under I loved where the other Vipers came from - I didn't see that one coming at all, I was glad to see more apollo ;D The Caprica stuff once again though not long enough once again furthered Helos plot, And also the roslins hallucinations/visions are certainly interesting is it the stuff shes taking or prophecy (personaly I thought it was funny she saw snakes when she was in with the press ;D)

unfortunatly i didnt get to see much of it as i was babysitting my sisters kids but what i did see i loved and holy crap how good was the caprica bits my buddy helo seems to be in for a treat lol - anyone complaining about the lack of mechanical cylons i think myabe silenced, the baltar stuff was (what i saw) was fantastic) and I really enjoyed seeing tigh's charecter get a bit more screen time and the stuff between appolo and tighs wife was very well done. Also have to say the viper stuff was an absolute joy (currently im watching through the original series for the first time) I can't wait for the the re-run of the ep.
