Yes, I play too many video games, so sue me. Anyone else here play any online games regularly? I've been playing City of Heroes since launch, but I'm looking into World of Warcraft now that its out.
I also just checked out Half-Life 2; fun stuff, but I have trouble playing a single-player shooter nowadays after so much Counterstrike.

i had played various games over the internet (as did we all) before i got into true online gaming. i spent about a year in Asheron's Call. then i got the offer to be a beta tester for Shadowbane, but it was only for about a month before they went live. next i played for several months in Star Wars Galexies.
i havent played it, but the preview for City Of Heros looked way cool! i think the next big thing im looking forward to is Dungeons & Dragons Online. ive done some reading on it and it seems to be worthwhile. the company developing it, Turbine Entertainment, is takin it pretty seriously. i read that the team stays after work at least one night a week to play D&D (pen & paper, old school) so they can be sure they know what its about.
"sorry honey, im gonna be late tonight. ive got......work to do" ;D

I hope they've changed their tune since Asheron's Call 1, because when my freind tried to convince me to jump ship from EQ to AC, I was appaled at the amount of macroing & unsupervised bots running around; I have issues with games that allow or turn the other cheek on cheaters & min/maxers. City of Heroes is great, I'd recommend it to a casual or a hardcore gamer; you really can just hop on for 15 minutes & accomplish something, unlike most of the rest...not sure if they've had a free trial yet, but if so, check it out!

AC was full of macros for sure. some really brilliant guy wrote a program called Decal that was designed to run inside the game. while it didnt actually do anything itself, there was a slew of plug-ins that would run inside it, allowing various maros to run. the portal/buff/trade bots were really cool, but the combat macros were what most people had problems with, including Turbine. they did take measures to boot and ban persons for these actions. Star Wars Galaxies decided to include an in-game macro system to prevent people from doing something like this. after i became familiar with the system i was able to write a macro that would follow someone around and hunt/heal/fight with them. starting out was kinda tough there, so i would find a noob that needed help and offer to run it with them when i had to leave for work or something. i didnt have a problem with it because i was helping someone who needed it, and my character was at a point where there was nothing to be gained from just toasting things with my laser rifle. i can remember finding a new guy that was just standing around pleading with people to go with him to finish a mission. i ended up making several really good friends in the process.

I'm quite into City of Heroes, but I dunno. Either I'm really, really slow to progress, or the people that I know that play, all spend far too much time playing it. I've been playing for... I dunno, a few months and a guy who started 2, maybe three weeks ago has managed to get one character to a higher level than me... actually probably two now, last I spoke to him, a second character was almost at my main character's level and it's been a while... mostly because he's playing CoH all of the time.

If you only played CoH at launch, give it another shot; there's a lot more content now.
What server do you play on, Crashdown?

Yup, Virtue here as well...how did I know . Who are your heroes? My main one is a level 19 tech scrapper: claws/regeneration named Elsie Dee. I had a few others get into their teens, but I was happiest with my scrapper. Over on Guardian (Virtue had some hefty downtime for emergency maintenance yesterday, if you weren't around to see it), I created the Avante Guardian yesterday, with possibly the most horrible, lurid costume ever imagined, but I kinda had to. He's a tanker, with the invulnerability powerset, and so when he activates one of his powers; I forget which, he even goes sparkly, too ... it really doesn't take all that much to please me sometimes
