Feel free to post them... I've been trying to get a word in edge wise but it seems Frak is dead set on a dice game, though I think the material is perfectly fine for a diceless RP, in which people just write. I'm not going to debate it, however, I have far better things to do...

first character idea...

Mister ( or Chief ) Parker Dupris
Marine Warrant Officer, Special Forces type

This character would be someone with a bit of class who could hold his own in a game of chess with Dr Baltar. He went to the ( an? ) Academy, and has a disdain for viper pilots. Think SAS officer, who has an absolute devotion to duty and the survival of the race. I’d have to think of some kind of tragic flaw for him, though… not drinking, of course; that’s taken. : )

He’s the kind of character you could see equally well in class A mess grays and sword at a consulate reception, charming it up with the dignitaries and/or their wives, as well as stripping down an IED in the field while ordinance whizzes by overhead.

His unit was running penetration evolutions when the Cylon attack occurred. They were outfitted as civilians and well equipped in an FTL-capable ship that presents as a tender or some kind, something innocuous and un-sexy. In fact the ship is an intelligence-gathering post and stealth delivery ship. An interesting twist might be that because they were in the middle of such an exercise, they have no official ID, uniforms, or anyway of identifying themselves…. just a lot of high-end weapons and gear. Of course, this Officer and his CO or XO ( still alive? ) have codewords to verify identity and mission… but how to verify –those-, eh?

The exercise they were a part of had to do with penetrating the rings of defensive positions the Galactica had during the decommissioning ceremony ( yes, still a battlestar, still with a compliment of escorts and picket ships… albeit a small contingent ). This would have been an official exercise authorized by some Marine peer of Adama, with whom the Commander maintains a bit of friendly tension. The Marine flag officer would run adversarial exercises against the Galactica Marines, and now and then penetration or sabotage drills with them ( and other ships ).

Choosing this particular time, the decommissioning ceremony, was not an accident- it was to be part of the informal send off between friends. The Marine strike team was to stow aboard and present Adama with some casual token of recognition from their CO, the friend and peer of Adama’s. This might not have been looked on well by some more officious attendees, but within the circles of the aging warrior’s command, it might have seemed perfectly appropriate.

When the attack came, the decision was made to lie low, and appear as the crew of a legitimate civilian tender of some kind, until more info came. The chain of command was disrupted almost immediately of course, and no info came at all.

It was decided that the ship and its compliment of Marines would remain with the Galactica fleet, posing as civilians until such time as they could determine what was going on; this is of course a departure from a normal situation, where any military asset would likely be bound to make itself available for the local Commander. At the time of this character’s introduction, perhaps that’s when this guy makes his past known… or at least part of it. If they’ve been eavesdropping, they know that anyone could be a Cylon… even Adama or his staff members.

As you may or may not deduce, these characters have been rattling around in my head as ideas for fanfic... but fleshing them out a bit in an RPG is a nice way to develop one of them, I think.
