Hmmm... Okay, so what about the civie thing I mentioned? Everyone should get to play the character that they want... the only problem is whether the characters the players want to play mesh together. I'm pretty flexible. I've been playing PnP role playing games for more than 20 years. There's millions of players of PnP role playing games. Yet, it sounds like you don't seem to be too convinced the whole process of PnP role playing even works. Well, if all the sales of PnP RPG game products and all the players out there doesn't convince you the process works for a lot of people, I'm probably not going to be able to convince you on a message board that it works, either. I guess I'm at a stalling point. I guess I didn't know I was going to have to "sell" the whole concept of using standard roleplaying tools that have been around for decades.

LOL... No, I think the idea is interesting... Its just I'm a bit dogmatic... Dogmatic about what? Diceless roleplaying systems? 99% of the PnP RPG audience has never and will never use diceless systems. Millions use standard RPG rule sets like D20, GURPS, etc. A few thousand use diceless systems. If you're going to be dogmatic about diceless roleplaying, you're not going to find anyone else to play RPGs with. You are a member of a small minority, and if you're bound and determined to play on your terms, you simply won't find games to play in. I'm not going to fight about a game.

I said I was interested... One has to be honest about the process of these games. Online message boards are not the most ideal environment for gaming. They're designed to be played by friends sitting around a table. People have to be really excited and enthusiastic about playing a game and gaming in general to overcome the obstacles that are caused by playing a game in this environment. I feel like I'm sensing more questions challenging the game process than enthusiasm to overcome challenges the obstacles cause.

I was just merely suggesting an alternate option, however, I can see where a combat system like the one would come in handy, after watching Bastille Day, which still has fighting, but is essentially Cylon-less.

Yeah, you won't find a lot of RP groups that are going to want to play in a combat-less game. Matter of fact, some of the groups are hard to push toward doing anything but hacking and slashing... that where the term "hack n' slash" came from. I have no interest in a hack n' slash game, but combat is going to happen. It is an "adventurous" setting no matter where the characters end up.

Sort of Falloutish? Still room for character interaction, but at any time there could be riots or espionage, well more espionage, but from what Rosilin says it seems all the civies ships do is riot...

There have been RPGs set up for basically any thriller/adventure genre, from fantasies like LotR to James Bond to Indiana Jones to Star Trek/Wars to Fallout and Mad Max. Any setting where there is interpersonal conflict and risk of life and limb has potential as a RPG setting.

So is anybody gonna do this but us? Maybe we should try recruitment in on the Scifi forum?

So like do you have any ideas, aside from the combat system. I know those games have like character sheets and source material and the like... If its one thing I enjoy its backstory, makes things seem more real. I mean we don't have much considering the series is only 3 episodes in (well for the Americans). Though there is enough that is implied or is common knowledge, ranks, a bit on religion, the organization of government, and the state of the civilian population.

That's never a problem for me. You decide what ideas to go with after you figure out what your gaming group's tastes are.

I'm new, I have a great deal of RP experience ( both dice-based and otherwise ) and I am definitely up for playing, if this idea is still breathing : )
I have a few character ideas ( military and civie ) and Id be way interested in hearing others' char ideas, as well.
Hello? *taptaptap*
Is this thing on?
