Someone scan in and post the UK cover art if you can, let's see how different our DVD covers look (I know the rating thing will be different and the little details, who knows?)

Does it seem strange that the DVDs are being released so soon after the show finished its first season? I thought it usually took a year or more to release the DVDs of a season... I mean - don't they want to air repeats until the next season rolls around, and then start the next season, and THEN release the DVDs? I never really paid much attention to DVD release dates for TV shows, but that just seems odd to me...

Two more things:
1) This doesn't include the mini-series... that one has to be bought separatly
2) Question - any word if this will include additional footage?

Does it seem strange that the DVDs are being released so soon after the show finished its first season? No. That's the way this sort of thing used to be done, but the studios seem to be cottoning on to the fact that early release capitalises on viewer interest and reduces propensity for piracy. More and more modern TV series (and to an even greater extent, films) are having their DVD release schedule accelerated. The market, and its trends, are changing all the time. Seems the studios have worked out that you can make more money by getting the product out sooner. It is also getting easier to make quality DVD releases more quickly nowadays. With films and TV series being shot with eventual DVD release in mind, supplemental material can be catalogued and prepared while production is actually taking place, making the whole process quicker, and ultimately better, than having some archivist have to find and collate it all months, or years, down the line. The status of the US release is unknown at the moment. The UK release definitely does include deleted scenes. It is likely (although not guaranteed) that the US release will include the same supplements as the UK one, at the very least. The US version of the mini is more feature-laden than the UK one; time will tell whether this follows through to the series.

Thanks Ziptie. I don't watch much TV at all except for football and some movies, and haven't gotten into a series since the original 24 (and before that... well... probably a decade's gone by since I watched anything regularly). Good to hear that my concerns about motives in pushing a DVD release forward are unfounded This is one that I will be picking up.
