Make sure you get as many people who are not into the series yet to watch the next episode. In my opinion it is the best of the series!

Ummmm...I think I preferred "You Can't Go Home Again", but only by a very narrow margin.
But you're right in saying anyone not yet into TNS or indeed BSG at all should watch "Hand of God". It's a great one for newbies.

It's difficult to say when there are so many good episodes

Think its an episode for the action fans. I enjoyed it but i thought it was a little rushed and the music was terrible especially at the end

I didn't like the music at the end, either. But I liked the episode.

HoG was very good. But, IMHO, KLG2 could eat HoG for breakfast.

HOG is a great epi but I'm with ChrisS in that epi 13 KLG beats it hands down. ;D You just can't beat that one!

I prefer HoG to KLG because I didn't end up bawling my eyes out at the end of HoG...although the terrible music meant it was a pretty close thing...

Maybe I am reading in too much, but I generally find that things that "suck" in BSG actually are there for a reason, and thus aren't quite so "sucky." Could the choice of music in Hand of God have been intentional? I mean think of the two movies that fit that music. I haven't tried to see a mapping, but maybe there is. It could spell trouble for Apollo. Maybe in season two he will captured, then tied down and splayed open, while he shouts a single word!
Anyway, the best episodes IMO are:
1. Kobol's Last Gleaming (part 1) 2. Kobol's Last Gleaming (part 2) 3. Hand of God 3. 33
But it really isn't even close... Kobol's Last Gleaming, either part, is like a hundred times better than Hand of God or 33, which are basically tied for third. I'm judging by emotional impact and artistry. I can see how some (especially young viewers) would prefer the action of Hand of God.

Hey everyone dissing the music in HoG! It's pistols at dawn!
Dammit, music just doesn't get any better than that!

I'm in total agreement here. HOG is the best episode of the first season. It is the best episode, because it is pretty much stand alone. And I happen to like the pipes at the end... it's not the action that makes the episode pay itself off, but rather the victory. I love the depressing, tragic nature of the series... but HOG was like the first 'real' victory for our humans.
KLG, both of them are great, but the fact that they are open ended takes away from them, and they are totally dependent on their conclusion, which one must concede that it COULD suck really bad, it could also be fantastic. So I'll reserve judgement until July

Hornblower is a Western? Well I never. *smacks forehead* I meant the constant duelling, not necessarily at dawn. My bad. Too much cheese eaten today.

Yes...I keep telling people this episode is easily one of the best all time hours of sci-fi on television. If people aren't a fan after this episode then there is no hope. I love the strategy of it all, the nod to the original ep, and the suprise is so kick ass. Sorry...just giddy in a geeky way.
