And my BEST Scenes Review of Episode 1.08- 'Flesh & Bone'- is up at the Reviews section of GS.
Here's a sample:
This is an episode which is very intriguing as it explores the characters of Laura Roslin & Kara ‘Starbuck’ Thrace through their interaction with another Cylon copy aboard the Galactica, Leoben Conroy (played very passionately by Callum Keith Rennie). By the end of ‘Flesh and Blood,’ Kara and Laurin have become changed women. One might not necessarily welcome their transformation, but certainly the episode pulls you in and keeps you guessing where the series is going to go in the weeks and years ahead, now that Season 2 is an official go!
To briefly summarize the story, the Galactica finds a copy of Leoben hiding out on the Geminon Traveler, and Commander Adama subsequently wants him questioned to determine what his agenda is. He assigns Starbuck the task, and as the plot unfolds, Leoben states that he has “planted a nuclear warhead aboard one of the ships…[And] it’s set to go off at 18:30 hours.” Through various abuse tactics, Kara eventually learns that Leoben has concocted an elaborate bluff so that he can “get to her” as well as President Laura Roslin, who has been having recent visions of him. Although Laura disposes of Leoben (to be mentioned later in my review), she realizes that a lingering threat might very well remain aboard the Galactica.
The best scenes all revolve around Leoben. Rennie steals the show as the duplicitous Cylon. Some of the best interactions occur between Kara and Leoben in the interrogation room. At first Kara ignores Leoben’s message that he has something to tell her about the future and lets the guards pummel him. Of course, Leoben does not help his case as he continues to toy with her, making ridiculous comments like “Let the games begin!” or “I have a surprise for you!” At one point, he even manages to spring across the room and start choking Kara before security pulls him away. But over time Starbuck becomes less convinced of her own stance that he is nothing more than a machine and that he is not an instrument of God’s design. Slowly and calculatingly, Leoben reveals things to her, about her mother inflicting suffering on her as well as her destiny in the greater scheme of things. And she listens very attentively, starting to believe his words that they will find Kobol and eventually Earth.
