The Best Scenes in 1.07 "Six Degrees of Seperation"
by Koenigrules
CONTAINS SPOILERS!!!
James Callis as Dr. Gaius Baltar truly shines in this installment. He gives a tour de force performance that is absolutely priceless. And Callis is able to provide much needed humor to the series as well as add dramatic tension to the overall story line. To summarize the plot, Baltar refuses to believe in Six’s “one true God,” so she abandons his mind and emerges in corporeal form aboard the Galactica as Ms. Shelly Godfrey (get it- God-free), accusing the doctor of being the one responsible for the holocaust. Naturally, Baltar has to clear his name before the entire crew, including Adama and Roslin, imprison him for life (or possibly demand his execution).
The scenes revolving around the identification of a man (possibly Baltar) penetrating the planet’s defense mainframe with an explosive device the day just prior the Cylon attack are probably the best to date of this series. From Callis’ comedic interlude with Lieutenant Gaeta in the turbo-flush facility to his manic frenzy in smashing the computer’s incriminating, photo-identification evidence are the highlights of ‘Six Degrees of Separation.’
The lines that Baltar delivers are hilarious at these moments. When Gaeta races out of the Head to avoid further contact with the good doctor, Baltar yells out “Where are you going? You forgot to wash your hands!” And when he discovers Ms. Godfrey/Six is in one of the cubicles, he barges in and announces, “You’re a fake. You’re a copy…Struck a nerve, have I? Which I find rather impossible to achieve. You think this is over? This is not over! You have not heard the last. No more Mr. Nice Gaius!” As she slams the door right in his face, a pilot then enters the Head and all Baltar can say is “Women!”<br>
