"All of this has happened before and all of this will happen again."
"It's real. The scriptures. The myths, the prophecies. They're all real."
"So say we all".
"Do you believe in the gods? If you believe in the gods, then you believe in the cycle of time, that we are all playing our parts in a story that is being told again and again and again throughout eternity... The scriptures tell us that a dying leader led humanity to the promised land. If you go back to Caprica and bring me the arrow [of Apollo] I will show us the way."
Kobol was founded by the Twelve Tribes of man several thousand of years ago. Humanity was led there by a dying leader who saw visions. They were fleeing an enemy.
Then thousands of years later they left the planet and founded the Twelve Homeworlds of the new series.
Karmic re-occurance is not a new concept within religion. To take an example, ponder the Lotus Sutra's claims that Shakyamuni Buddha (the "real" historical Buddha) was just
one in a long line of Buddha's who came by the same revelations in the same way. Or look at "The Matrix" where Keanu Reeve's Neo was just one in a long line of Neos in a series of recurring rebellions against the machine masters.
History repeats itself. The same story over and over in the Cycle of Time.
So let me throw this one out to you. If several thousand years ago Kobol was founded by Twelve Tribes of humans led by a dying prophet, isn't it possible that this leader was none other than ...
Lorne Greene's Adama? If so, then the TNS Kobol was the planet that TOS Adama thought was Earth. And the TNS Colonials are descendents of the original tribes of man from TOS.
I doubt you'll get a confirmation one way or the other from Ron on this, but this stoyrline definitely has possibilites. Within the body of a Battlestar Galactica remake we have a continuation of the original Battlestar Galactica storyline?
I hope someone runs with this.

In TOS, the Lizard Cylon race was a race that was overcome by their own technology. They created a machine race (patterned after Man actually) that revolted and overthrew the lizard Cylons and then began a genocidal war against the humans. There are plenty of hints in TOS that the human/Cylon war was part of a battle between the greater powrs of Darkness and Light.
In TNS they short-circuit the war and the Lizard Cylons are taken out of the picture entirely. The Cylons only have to wipe out one race, their human creators. It's a simplification of the TOS story but it's still the same story.
