I decided to reproduce this from Sci-Fi Wire as they provide more details to the TrekWeb article: www.scifi.com/scifiwire2005/index.php?id=30212Galactica Scores Big Ratings The two-hour Jan. 14 premiere of SCI FI Channel's original series Battlestar Galactica was the number-one cable program on that date in key demographics and ranked as the highest-rated January show in the network's history. Galactica ranked first among adults aged 25-54 and 18-49 and men aged 25-54, 18-49 and 18-34. The show earned a 2.6 household rating (3.1 million viewers), ranking second among all cable programs. Galactica was also SCI FI's highest-rated first-quarter series telecast ever and its second highest-rated series telecast ever, behind only Stargate Atlantis' series premiere in summer 2004. Galactica delivered 2.2 million viewers aged 25-54 and 1.9 million among those aged 18-49. The show won a decisive victory over UPN's Star Trek: Enterprise, outperforming its new episode in total viewers, among adults 25-54 (2.2 million vs. 1.7 million) and 18-49 (1.9 million vs. 1.5 million). Among men 25-54, Galactica delivered 1.5 million viewers, beating 16 of the top 20 programs on the six broadcast networks, including CSI: Miami, JAG and Fox's premiere of Jonny Zero. Battlestar Galactica moves to its regular timeslot on Jan. 21, joining SCI FI's Friday-night lineup of original programming, "SCI FI Fridays." Galactica will air Fridays at 10 p.m. ET/PT, following Stargate SG-1 at 8p.m. and Stargate Atlantis at 9 p.m. KR I am most gratified, hope they can retain the audience for this critical period. I am quietly confident that it can; perhaps even increase? What can we do to help? I know not much but I've waxed lyrical to all my friends and family. What about chat rooms? I am an old fogey and pretty ignorant of such things.

I'm cautiously optimistic that numbers could go up next week. Especially if the type of people who DON'T post on boards.
I would think they could get a lot of women hooked, if they bother to watch. It's got "soap opera" elements that are popular to that demographic.

I think that this lang person has almost no readers, since he's the only person signed up on his own forum. (Gotta love a one person audience, no one will talk back). Besides that, this looks like very good news for BSG. But I think the big thing to watch will be the ratings after the premiere. Also, does anyone have the numbers for the UK ratings? Lang's main readers are people who make fun of him. BTW: xsorbit26.com/users5/languatron/index.php?topic=202.0#msg254

Uh perhaps laying off the crack would do him wonders... Cripes. -Shawn Oh yeah, that one member message board filled with rants without a single link ever made to evidence to support anything it claims or a single person even bothering to take the time to agree, mock, or even spam him. Even shut-ins have Meals on Wheels people occasionally stop by with a bite to eat for them. What a sad life. Makes William H. Macy's characters look charismatically radiant in comparison.

Wow Languatron must be happy he is in the States. Some of the drivel he is posting is so personally insulting (read the thingy about KR) that here in BKK at best he would have been taken to court to take it down and pay damages ...... at worst he would end up being a statistic.

Man, I've never watched any "Saved By The Bell," but from what "my friends" have told me, it was a MUCH more exciting show than this BSG stuff. Good thing I'm never gonna watch that BSG either, or at least ADMIT to someone that I watch it!!! *rollseyes*
Besides, "Saved By the Bell" was on for like 15 years or something. I think they're old enough to have their kids in the show. BSG could last that long, too!

I'm cautiously optimistic that numbers could go up next week. Especially if the type of people who DON'T post on boards. I would think they could get a lot of women hooked, if they bother to watch. It's got "soap opera" elements that are popular to that demographic. Well I'm a woman who is already hooked as are female friends. Seeing that you are into gender steretyping I will too. I'm really glad to have found a BSG forum where the talk doesn't centre on how hot the female characters, the specifications of the Galactica's guns and when a model of the Galactica will be available. I hadn't actually realised Galaxy Quest was real. If by 'soap opera' you mean BSG actually has a focus on characters and their emotional journey as well as the battle against the Cylons then yes it has me hooked for just that reason. Watching the characters cope with the pressure of surviving the genocide of their people and the constant threat of cylon attack is great drama. I noticed that the target demographic however has men of all different ages while women didn't get a mention. I have no idea why this would be the demographic they aim for, what's wrong with women watching SC fi? I've been into sci fi ever since I hid behind the sofa from the Darleks and discovered Asimov. I've watched Stargate SG1 for years and there the fandom consists of mainly women and I doubt anyone could label that soap opera. Erika
