www.syfyportal.com/article.php?id=1685Olmos Says Old Fans Can't Be Won Over Author: Michael Hinman Olmos, who plays Cmdr. William Adama in the reimagination of "Battlestar Galactica" that premiered last weekend on Sci-Fi Channel and Space, said that Sci-Fi Channel president Bonnie Hammer needs to change her view on how to deal with some fans who are resisting the new series. "She thinks we'll win them over," Olmos said during a television critics press tour. "It's not about winning them over. It's about them becoming understanding of the world that we've unleashed." ...Aaron Douglas, who plays Chief Tyrol in the series, said that he had heard that overnight ratings gave BSG a 3.3 rating. If true, those numbers would be in-line with the first night of the miniseries back in 2003, which earned a 3.4 rating, reaching nearly 3.5 million viewers.... If the numbers hold true, the premiere will join the miniseries toward the top of Sci-Fi's highest-rated broadcasts of all time. By comparison, Sci-Fi Channel's highest-rated show -- "Stargate SG-1" -- averages somewhere around a 1.7, representing just under 2 million viewers. Read more at the above link.

With due respect to EJO, I was and continue to be a fan of TOS, but I am also a fan of TNS as well. I appreciate TOS for what it was...a show that grabbed my imagination as a child and holds a nostalgic value for me as an adult( I own the boxed set). Now, we have TNS and as an adult, it has captured me yet again. I, like many fans of TOS was skeptical when I heard about all the changes, but I decided to give it a shot and view the mini with an open mind. The mini hit me with a wow factor that I hadn't felt since Farscape, and it left me feeling...I HAVE TO HAVE MORE!!
Now, we have BSG ( TNS) in series one of what I hope will be many more to come. For my fellow TOSers who continue to ridicule TNS, all I can say is get a life. TOS was great for it's time but simply wouldn't work today. TNS on the other hand is perfect for today and is re-inventing not only BSG, but Sci-Fi as we know it.
So, in summary, I think that EJO is partially right. SOME TOS fans will refuse to embrace TNS, and will stop at nothing to see that TNS gets canned. I feel however, that there are many more TOS fans, who feel as I do and want this new show to have a long and fruitful life. I recently purchased the mini on DVD and was very pleased with it. I can't wait for episodes to come out on DVD as well. I'll definately be buying them all and placing them in my collection...right next to TOS DVD's, Farscape DVD's, Star Wars Trilogy DVD's, Episode 1 & 2 DVD's and the rest of my mostly Sci-Fi collection.
My plea to all TOSers who haven't embraced the show yet...
View this show with an open mind. It's the same story, only told differently, but still gripping and highly entertaining.

Totally agree with you daggot.
I was a die hard TOS fan. and love the show that takes me back to the wonder years as well, and I purchased the box set - even though my wife makes fun of me every time she see's it ;D I'm a big fan of TNS, the actors are great, the graphics are great (as long as they don't start recycling footage too much). love the nitty gritty and the story lines. leaving the aurgument for a continuation aside, i think they've done an excellent job of reimaging to todays standards and picking up for an adult where the TOS left off for kid. I've bought the mini and have every intention of purchasing the season on dvd when released - even though I'm one of the guilty parties who downloaded since I couldn't wait. I'll be showing my support for the TNS at every opportunity

as i mentioned when this story first came out, i understand why EJO would say such things.
1) he's a pure straight-shooter. 2) he's been getting THREATS in email/letters/etc. 3) no publicity is bad publicity.
he'd rather lose the tiny minority of people who hate the new idea than to spend useless energy trying to "convert" those who don't WANT to be converted.
I'm like most-- i liked the original series and i love the new one.
