Part of me would like to see them reach earth, but another part of me doesn't for the sake of the series. I mean, I can't stop thinking of how aweful Galactica 1980 was. Still, I have to admit that is is fun trying to speculate what would the Colonials find if they ever did reach earth. What if Earth had been infiltrated by Cylons?

If they finally do reach Earth, I think it would be a good twist if they come across a society which is as technologically advanced but has embraced aftifical intelligence and not gone to war with it. Oh yes! Best idea yet IMHO. I can just picture the look on the old man's face...

Here's my ending to the series:
The fleet finally reaches Earth as revealed from info that is gained from Kobol. As they prepare to send out a Raptor to check out Earth the Cylons suddenly appear. We learn from a cylon that humanity will be destroyed and the entire cylon civilization is there to see it happen.
A cataclysmic battle ensues. We see the battle from the point of view of Lee Adama in his viper and a female cylon in a cylon craft. We see the civilian ships all being destroyed. When all seems lost we see a gigantic explosion across the cosmos. The Galactica, the Basestars, everything is destroyed, except for Lee Adama in a now crippled viper and a lone female cylon in a nearly destroyed craft.
Both descend to Earth and crash near each other in a beautiful area that is green and filled with fruits of all kinds. There are no people on Earth.
Lee walks with his weapon drawn toward the cylon ship. The stunned female cylon comes out of her destroyed craft. She looks at Lee and says "I can't hear them. We are no more." She starts to cry.
Lee puts his weapon down and says, "They are all dead. We are the last of our kind."
The female cylon stops crying, looks at Lee and says, "No, we are the first of our kind."
Lee says, "What is your name?"
She says, "I am model number three."
Lee looks at her and says, "I need to call you by a name not number. Let's see, three, Eve. How about Eve?"
The cylon says, "Eve is a pretty name."
With that the scene cuts away with the knowledge that Lee Adama and Eve are alone on a beautiful new world called Earth.

If they find Earth, it should be just be an image of the planet Earth coming around the moon (like in the famous Earthrise picture from Apollo 8) in the last frame of the last episode/movie, then fade to black.
