A thread similar to this was posted up at Skiffy. I have to honestly say TNS gets knocked whether its shown in its entirety or when it is edited. This makes absolutely no sense. NBC hopes to lure new viewers to the show. A three hour airing is preferable to four and will insure higher ratings. And this is the most important point, how will new viewers know which parts have been edited if they never saw it in the first place??? I don't think for a moment this will pull new viewers away. If anything, a new audiencel will be acquired & will be watching TNS on January 14th. What do you think??? KR

I think what they want to do is put out a quickie version that they are able to play at eight o'clock, this will lure new viewers and if they want they can buy the DVD or watch it on Sci-Fi the following week. I will watch it just to see what they cut out and I am curious if it will have the same flavor or come off as extremely watered down.

I think it will do just fine and draw a lot of new folks to the show. I'm guessing some of the more controversial stuff will be edited. That will make it sit better with the mainstream.
In addition, I doubt they'll be cutting any of the action scenes, so the three hour product will be faster paced.

Not for new viewers, BR! I saw the unedited Lord of the Rings (all 3) & I loved all the "new" scenes. But, basically with the chopping down for the theater version, it was still the same story even though they originally had an extra 130 minutes (30 from the first, 50 in the second and 50 in the third). So it can be done. I've seen many a 1999 & UFO episode (even TOS of Star Trek) edited down from the nearly 50 minute episode lengths & they still made sense. So I wouldn't worry about this too much, BR. KR
