Like many of you, I have binged on other sci-fi sources in the seemingly eternal wait for the highly-anticipated next episode of Sci-fi drama's greatest series so far.
Most notably, I've watched the original series again, and am still a big fan. I've also watched the Star Wars Trilogy and some Star Trek TNG. Anyway, I've come up with these ideas, which I'd like to see in the new Galactica series....
08. An alien character could be introduced for comic relief. Something like Jar Jar Binks. This character could turn up on the bridge serving hors d'veurs during the climax of a tense conflict, like Neelix did in the third episode of voyager, which incidentally was the last one I ever watched.
07. Muffit. Similar to the above, but we hook the kiddies with a robot dog. Maybe Muffit could contemplate what it must be like to be a real daggit. Worked for Mr Data.
06. To avoid any allegations of homophobic tendancies, the writers create a "special" relationship between Lieutenant Gaeta (the obvious choice) and .... say, Chief Tyrol. It happened in the Star Trek Universe, it could happen here. Or maybe we could have gay robots, like the ones on Star Wars, or especially those in the Original Series' "Experiment in Terra." Gayest. Robots. Ever. Not that there's anything wrong with that.... (sorry, had to be said. Very 1990 I know).
05. Apollo (or maybe Gaeta and Tyrol?) could adopt the Boxey character as his (their) son. Boxey could then be brought on missions, or he could stow away in the event that it ever became inconceivable that a 10 year old would go on missions (but that would be extremely unlikely). Combining this idea with the Muffit character introduced in number 07, every plot point could be preceded by the lines "Muffit Muffit! Come back here you daggit!" This would make for GOLD quality drama, people. Am I the only one who sees this?
04. Someone could turn up and call Adama "an old modocker!" It'd be just like listening to fingernails scrape a blackboard!
03. The cross-over episode. A temporal... void... rift thing creates a dimensional rift, and 70's Galactica comes through. Comedy as 70's Starbuck tries to seduce Kara Thrace. Tension as the two eras battle over wardrobes, gender and hairdos. Suspense as they unite to combat the cylons. Tears as the original Galactica must inevitably depart back to 1978 space. Hey! This could be how TNS 2005 Galactica ends up with Muffit! GOLD!!! It's all coming together!!!!
02. The Matrix thing. It's revealed, by the Architect (a benevolent, godlike being played by Dirk Benedict in a heartwarming cameo), that the destruction of the colonies has occured six times before! Oh no! Ergo, the original series described one battle against the Matrix, with the 2005 series describing another!!! Concordantly, the One shall be...... let's say Colonel Tigh. Vis-a-vis, there is no spoon, people, no spoon. (SPOILER) In the back of our mind, we surely all fear this. Leoben Conoy's comments to Starbuck about "the last time"? Nursey? (END SPOILER)
01. The as-yet-unidentified cylon leader announces that he is in fact the original series Apollo!! Furthermore, the new series Apollo is his son. TNS Starbuck is TNS Apollo's sister. Six is a droid that the original Apollo build when he was a kid. Leoben Conoy is the bounty-hunter son of TOS' Lucifer. Ewoks make it all good in the end.
Surely, just putting one of those ideas into the series would be a killer, wouldn't it? An absolute killer!!! Of ratings, credibility, fandom....
