Has anyone worked out the rank insignia system worn on the collars?
The basic shape appears to be a diamond for everyone.
Enlisted ranks seem to have a black diamond in the bottom corner, and some system of stripes above that. Officers (below the very senior ranks) seem to have an additional diamond in the bottom corner, and some system of stripes above that.
But I can't really make it all out from the images on the web or the miniseries. Does anyone with better eyes (and some grabbed images!) have any insights?

I was wondering about that, too. Presumably the officers have SOME way to tell each other apart.
No insights, I'm afraid. My eyesight is terrible. Although is it me or does every single Viper pilot (apart from Apollo that is) seem to be a Lieutenant?

Yes, ive noticed that too. But remember there are two different grades of Lt. there is Junior Lt (LTJG) or Engsin, and there is LT which is the next step up. So its not un believeable that every pilot is a LT or LTJG since the Galactica probably lost all its Captains when the squadron was lost.

Hi everyone. This is my first post in this very cool forum. I asked the same question on Colonial Fleets where I go by the name Apollon. Here's a pic provided by 137th Gebirg:

Thanks Cosmic Superchunk that is so cool. Now if we can just fill in the balnks but for now we do not have to worry about anything above Commander.

Wow, you went to a lot of trouble, colour me impressed.
A question, what's embossed in the middle of colonel and commander? I thought it was a starburst, but now I'm not so sure. A sword and shield?

It's a sword and shield. If you look closely at the shield you will see it is patterned after the Galactica's shoulder patch from the original series.

Anyone notice what rank the CAG is? I re-watched the card game and his brief but while the tab looks gold so do all the others because of the flight uniform color reflections.

I assume the CAG was a captain. I'll have to view the DVD again to see if I can make it out his rank insignia.

Are those insignia just for the new series, or for TOS also?
