A few years ago, I was active in Andromeda fandom. Andromeda fans at the time (at least in the internet communities I hung out in) tended to divide naturally into discrete yet overlapping factions, according to which character(s) an individual fan considered their favorite(s).
These factions had formalized names: The Dylanites were fans of Dylan Hunt, Romans like Rommie, Tyrants favored Tyr Anasazi, and so forth. We even got the point that the show's writers and producers had their own fan factions (I was co-founder of the Ethlietists, fans of Ethlie Ann Vare -- she called me her favorite baby!).
So....here in Galactica fandom, do we have factions? Will Apollo fans proudly call themselves "Apollonians"? Will people who wish they had a chip in their heads answer to the name "Sixers"? Are there any proud "Gaetans" out there? Will certain faction members start lobbying Xenu to add smiley faces wearing Tyrolian hats?

It doesn't seem like any factions have formed, but if any do, sign me up with the Col. Tigh faction.  (Maybe we could be called the "Tighed One On"ers...hahaha).   |

If we must... can there please be some form of 'peace' between the 'different' groups? I lurk a lot in SG-1 fandom and there are certain places that mentioning you like a certain character will get you flambed! Heck, saying that you really liked Season 6 around some people will get you this  Can't we all be one big, happy family? *flutters her eyelashes* Though I can see myself as a Roman (refering to BB's original post! ) The girl has taste! ;D |

Well, I certainly have a favourite actor (Jamie Bamber - whose fans are known as "Crumpeteers") and Lee Adama is someone who I pay particular attention to, but I wouldn't be inclined to form a "faction" especially, because I like all the characters and how they interact. It is the interesting dynamics between all the various people and the complex relationships that intrigue me overall with this show so I wouldn't like the "fandom" to become too fractionalized. ;D
BTW: I like the little name under my posting name - "Colonial Canuck" ;D that's really cool - thanks to whoever did that for me!

Well, in Andromeda fandom, the only fan factions that really didn't get along were the Tyrants and the Trancers, fans of Tyr Anasazi and Trance Gemini, respectively. Wannabe Nietzscheans don't get along well with wannabe Pixies.
About the only such problem I forsee for BSG fandom would be for wannabe Cylons and...well, everyone else. But so far, even fanatic pro-humans like myself can get along with, say, CylonGod, prefectly fine. Although Mustex's habit of setting fire to anyone who disrespects Tricia Helfer is sadly reminiscent of the antics of a certain "enTranced" over on the SlipstreamBBS....
Or perhaps that's just because Ragnar Anchorage is pretty much a safe haven for people who don't go in for trolling, flaming, and general unpleasantness. Those people stick to the Sci-Fi boards and Usenet, plus the myriad TOSser boards.

Yup. In my mind, the sort of militant TOS fan who hates TNS and organizes petition drives and boycotts of broadcasters and sponsors in an effort to cause the new series to fail earns the label "TOSser".
I am unaware of any TNS'er who hates TOS with that sort of venom, but if such a person exists, I propose the label "Newdie". Or perhaps "Mooreron".
