Rewatched it last night and still loved it. I never mind plot "coincidences" (hey, I like Dickens) as long as I like the character interactions.
I loved Starbuck's running commentary, Apollo-Adama "what if it were me conversation" (Apollo might be independent from Adama in his decision making as in BD but he still wants to know he is loved), Tigh being relieved, and way too many other things to count.
Still actively loathe Roslin, but what else is new...

I really like this episode alot but I can't imagine that Starbuck would not get hurt from the G-forces involved in the wild flying of the Raider especially laying on her belly not straped in. Just an observation. Otherwise I thought it was great. ;D

Great episode!
But then I think all of the episodes so far have been great (even though "Bastille Day" was a bit weaker than the others, IMO, it was still good. Plus the double header series kick-off of "33" & "Water" is a real tough act to follow. That's what spoiled me to wanting longer eps each week! Every week I look at the clock at 45-50 minutes into the show, feeling like its all going to be over too soon!)
I especially love how they have been pulling elements from the old series into the new. In this episode, it was the "wiggle waggle" flying technique Starbuck used (as TOS Starbuck and Boomer did) to identify herself as being not just your average Cylon raider (of course, having "Starbuck" painted in red on the underside of the raider didn't hurt either!) And, Starbuck makes reference to Ambrosia when Adama comes to visit her in sickbay.
The character interplays just get better and better, too. I especially love the part when Adama dismisses Tigh from duty. The whole scene was made funnier when my husband responded, "Oooooo!"
So what if some of scenes were a bit of a stretch (Starbuck survives atmospheric entry onto a slightly but not completely hostile moon, Starbuck finds a still flight worthy cylon raider, Starbuck is able to out-maneuver the bullets Apollo fired at the raider when it didn't look like she had much of a windshield to see out of, and what was with Apollo not being able to "see" Starbuck's raider when it was behind him? You have got to be kidding me that the vipers should have such a blind spot like that - its a wonder they haven't been killed off sooner! But all aside, this is science fiction not a documentary. Besides, with all they're up against, don't the Colonials deserve a 'gimme' once in a while?
Its great TV that I'm going to watch week to week as long as its available; much better than some of the other offerings that are available these days!

In a quick recape we see Starbuck is marooned on a hostile planet. She lands and a gust of wind drags her for dome way before she can cut away her parachute. On the Galactica they are deciding what to do. Adama and Tigh know she has some oxygen, but not much. A rescue is mounted with no success. It seems the planet/moon has adverse effects on the Vipers causing them not to work after so many hours of flight. Apollo wants to continue the rescue but they are out of Vipers and insists he gets another one. Tyrol states there are none. Tyrol is realistic but Apollo wants it his way and complains. On the bridge Tigh is concerned, the longer they wait the greater the odds the Cylons will come. I am beginning to love this character more and more. Apollo begins complaining that Tigh never liked Kara and the two get in a shouting match, "ENOUGH!!!," thunders Adama and Lee decides to quit while he is ahead. The President and Baltar are discussing the situation when Six in a Blue Dress now which looks better than the Red one begins to sexually entice Baltar by kissing his fingers. The president states the longer they stay the better the chances the pilot can be found, the fleet can disperse a bit. Baltar knowing Six is there and that the Cylons will come tells the president this is a bad idea when Six departs only to see her reappear as quickly.
Six: Ah poor Guias, now you will never know if she is a real blond.
We also see Helo and Boomer on Cylon occupied Caprica. They are hoping to find a Raptor or some other ship. Helo tells her to get some more rest and goes to make breakfast. The toast is almost done when he hears a noise. A Number Six and two Cylons are in the restaurant. Helo is hiding and figures they have a chance. The toast pops up but the tin head does nothing. Boomer 2 comes into the room and the crap hits the fan. Helo kills one Cylon to have another fire round after round after him but miss. Looks like these guys can't hit the target either. Helo is knocked cold an awakes to find Boomer 2 gone.
On the Moon, Kara manages to find the Raider. She cuts an opening in it. The Cylons use a form of biomechanical technology which is slimy, almost reminicent of ID 4. Kara makes her way into the Raider and manages to find an air supply. She has to put a slimy tenderal-like thing in her mouth. She also manages to plug the hole with her flight suit. Is this realistic or not, who knows. Kara is studying the ship to somehow fly it. Back at the fleet, President Roslin is concerned, way too much time has been spent looking for one pilot. Resources are being used. Adama is pigheaded. I guess guilt over wanting to put Starbuck through the bulkhead after learning the truth of what happened to his son is playing a factor here. Tigh wants to give up but Adama states they will not quit. Now Lee decides to get more ships some from the air cap can be used. Tigh states if the Cylons attack they would be defenseless. Adama knows this as well but Lee says they can quickly return. Tigh says they should give up and Adama relieves him of command. Tigh salutes and leaves but runs into the president and states the facts in which she decides to meet with Adama and Lee. It looked like Lee was wearing the same timepiece as the originals on 78 BG. The meeting goes well. Roslin states blatently that they must give up. Adama relents and they will jump as soon as ready. Dualla states they have an incoming Cylon and Adama admits that Tigh was right. he even reinstates the Colonel. However they have no defenses. Two Vipers will be launched, lee and Hotdog. Hotdog's launch is aborted and lee must go up against the lone Cylon. Kara is hoping that whoever comes will notice it is her in the ship. A duel begins and Lee wonders who is flying that ship. He can't shoot it down. It maneuvers on top of his ship and he sees Star on one wing and Buck on the other. "WOO HOO," he shouts. Kara manages to land but is taken to sickbay to treat her injuries. A banged up leg.
Grade- C
==================================================
Thoughts:
This is a remake of The Return of Starbuck actually The Young Lords since Kara is injured in the same place as os Starbuck. Kara is the least of my favorites. Making the character female and getting Sackhoff to play her was a bad idea. The CGI is quite good. Seeing the maneuvers between Lee's ship and Kara's Raider were fresh. One thing that is omitted is we see Lee reaving the ship up and the Viper launches. I liked the way it was done in tos better. Michael Hogan is a plus for this show. Number Six looks hotter in the Blue dress and it softens her appearance. I liked it.

Yes this has not been my fav epeside. Alot of time i would be ooooooh come on. I could buy that she found the plane in the episode before both ships were going down basically the same. So falling close to each other is beliveable. But figuring how to fly the plane, leaving the planet.... avoiding all the shots from apollo was a little much. Also the plane had a big hole in it that she covered up with her jacket?( if she put a piece of metal or something idunno) She manange to escape the planets atmosphere with that hole and her jacket covering it? Anywho minor details i guessm Still overall a good episode but not my

Every episode has had me on the edge of my seat. This is amazing tv! i cheered when Starbuck flew by with her callsign written on the wings of the raider; and when Chief Tyrol said "Your ass belongs to me," i shouted "Yes!" i thought the character interaction was superb as was the acting job of the cast, as it invariably is. Unlike Dangermouse, i'm a fan of Roslin, and i think the scene where she tells Adama and Apollo to clear their heads is excellent. i can't wait for the next episode to see what they do with the Cylon raider. Time used to fly by for me; now it seems like every Friday takes forever to get here. All that said, i have to agree that there are more than a few stretches, however, and a few souls on this board have listed the ones that stuck out the most for me. The whole starbuck figuring out and flying the cylon raider thing... Even if it had an interface made for a humanoid bipedal pilot it would be a stretch, but this was a fusion of organic and mechanical. The only thing i could think of to make sense of this was pressure hoses, because i actually had an old car once that had a suction tube attached to another line that, when it would pop off, the transmission would jump into second gear and not come out of it. And the only reason i thought of that was because of the oxygen hose that Starbuck is sucking on. And how did she fly against lee without any kind of dradis display? She didnt have much of a cockpit window to track him with yet she was able to dodge his shots and managed to fall back and fly in formation with him? And what was that that she stuffed into the hole in the raider? Her jacket? A plot twist? In any case, it must be pretty sturdy to survive exiting an atmosphere and dogfighting in space. ...(of course, having "Starbuck" painted in red on the underside of the raider didn't hurt either!) It looked like tape (duct tape), to be specific. If it was red (i'll have to rewatch it soon), maybe it was Cylon blood.

Sorry to make two posts in a row but that last one was so long, and i wanted to devote this one to another ponderance. When Starbuck asks the raider's undercarriage, "Are you alive?" This, IMHO, is one of the spookiest lines in the episode, mostly because it is Starbuck saying it. Not that i think Starbuck is a Cylon at all, but it put a whole 'nother twist on the phrase for me, which i'll try to sum up. Is this a question the bio-Cylons ask a newly created bio-Cylon as confirmation that their creation is complete? Is it a question they only ask humans out of curiousity because they are in the presence of a real, live human (unlike the bio-Cylons which are partly synthetic). i don't know. It's kind of a fuzzy idea that keeps entering and leaving my head.

"Are you alive?" Ironically one of the Six's asked the Colonel on the armistice station that same question.

Starbuck a Cylon? What's up with that? It's starting to sound like an old Dr Pepper commercial: I'm a Cylon, he's a Cylon, she's a Cylon, we're all Cylons, would you like to be a Cylon too? ;D
Frack no! She's no Cylon. She's the best pilot aboard the Big G, and I wouldn't put past her to figure a way to fly a Raider. Besides, she was protected against G-forces by the Cylon's gooey, chewy, chunky guts.

Sorry if this has been brought up, as I just could not go through all three pages of this thread. I loved that Helo was making toast in a chrome toaster with a red light, I don't know why I just find it very funny!
