Add me to the your growing list, caseOrange! I am also pissed that it did not start everywhere at once. It makes it very scary to lurk or post on a forum such as this because I don't want to trip over a friggin' spoiler & ruin it for myself... Let's start threads specifically tailored to those who haven't gotten the series yet!
BTW, great thread, caseOrange!

Kind of like when you're reading a really great book and someone else comes up to you and says, "Did you get to the part where they kill the main character yet?" "No, but I got to the part where they beat the blabbermouth senseless!" ;D

I just answered my own request! I just checked the Sci-Fi schedule on-line and they are re-airing the mini in its entirety on Jan 12th starting @ 7pm est. Looks like they're going to show it a couple times during that week, too. (Now I can get it all on one tape instead of 2! Yippee! ;D)

Yup...there's a few of us dorks here in the USA who have not downloaded and are impatiently waiting for January. I saw the mini, and I really liked it. I have been intentionally avoiding any threads that discuss the new series because I want to experience it for myself. Not too much longer to wait. I need to see the mini again before I watch the series, but I guess that's not going to be a problem since NBC is going to air it, and Scifi will probably show it again before the series debuts. Calli Calli! I had no idea! I can burn them to CD for you if you would like to have them commercial-free. I don't have a DVD burner, but if you have a laptop you can hook that up to your TV same as a DVD player. Of course, if you're a Nielsen family I'm sure you will still report watching BSG and no harm will come of your participation in the nefarious downloading and watching practice. S.

I don't have a CD or DVD burner. I have been waiting to buy a DVD burner because I know they will come down in price quickly. Last year they were running at $460+, and they have come down by about $100 this year. I figure by next year, I'll be willing to shell out $250 for one. I DO have a laptop somewhere. My first grader uses it to play games. How did you get a copy without commercials? If that seems like a stupid question, I should warn you that I'm a technotard! Calli

Calli I fear that your laptop might not be possessed of the hardware and software that makes watching the show on a computer just as good as broadcast, but if you don't mind curling up in your office chair in front of your desktop (which is actually what I do, but my office chair is wicked comfy) it's all good. You'll need a decent media player (I use WinDVD, it came with my computer, others swear by WinAMP, I can't stand MS Media Plaer for watching shows. And you'll need a codec pack. Let's tawk! Sarah

Despite the network Ten is Aus probably delaying the airing out here until late 2005 (or 06, 07,08....) I have decided to immerse in anything I can find including reading the Ep. Spoilers by ErnestBorg9.
I haven chosen to do this as, like a spoilt child, I just cant wait. That and denying myself the spoilers would also mean denying myself the pleasure of most of this Board.
Finally, I am not downloading episodes off the 'net. I want and need people to watch this live in Aus. Many good shows get canned by the networks over here and left unfinished (Tru Calling taken off air three episodes before season end). I want to view all the BSG ep.s at a resonable hour, and not have it left to an after midnight timeslot wrapped between Paid adverts for exercise equipment and Benny Hinn.
For BSG and any other show to survive in Aus we need bums in seats in front of screens when it airs. I understand why people download the ep.s and I don't blame them. All I ask is that those same people switch the TV on when it airs as well. Doing this is the only way to voice our needs for great TV.
(Woah, didn't think I climbed this high on the old soap box. Better get down before and aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhh .............thump)

Better get down before and aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhh .............thump) I don't know how it works in Australia, but over here the industry relies on Nielsen research, which involves watchers reporting what they're watching. As far as I know, there are not little eyeballs in the television watching to see if you're in front of it, reporting back what you're watching, and otherwise totally being weird and scary. No. Instead, Nielsen sends out a package, including a viewing journal, and you fill it out and send it in. How do I know this? Aside from it's widely available information? I was a Nielsen viewer. At the time I had NO TELEVISION and NO CABLE, as I had removed those devices from my home in order to study more effectively for my impending quals. But I faithfully filled out my viewer guide, noting that I watched more television in a given day than any human being should do. I watched every single cool television show on the air at the time (I did KNOW about them), and a hell of a lot of PBS. Also, Passions, which cracks me up. No matter how many bums are in how many seats (that makes a funny image in an American's head, I tell you), that won't matter unless they are all literally being counted. And for your sake, I hope that's not the case. You not downloading the show makes exactly zero difference on any metric of observation according to your broadcasters, I can just about guarantee you that. As long as you still report that you watched it if asked, and maybe support the show by sending postcards to the advertisers and the network, your martyrdom is somewhat unnecessary. I say all this while operating under the assumption that torrenting is legal, although it appears that I might actually be a dangerous outlaw as we speak. S.

I fully admit to not being an expert on how they gauge ratings in Aus, but I believe they employ a settop box that records your viewing habits.
If I am correct, we need people to have BSG switched on even if we don't actually sit down and watch it.
Still, even if everyone in Aus sat and watched it every airing, the networks out here would still find some excuse to pull it off air (my cynicism runs deep some times).

I hear you, Moss. I do. The precise reasons for cancelling excellent shows are almost never given by the networks. Shows need time to turn into hits sometimes, too. I remain very chagrined that Firefly was cancelled. That was one of my all-time favorites ever. It kind of bothers me that "Friends" can be such a huge hit with humans and great works of speculative fiction and sci fi get nuked. Science fiction needs more Carl Sagans. The genre suffers from a lack of cachet, and I don't get that. Science fiction has been a precursor for such a tremendous amount of our actual technology, I don't get why people still sneer at it. Blah on them anyway. If it gets cancelled in Aus I will burn it to CD and send it to you, laws be damned. ;D

Thankyou Chalc, your a sweetheart.
Interesting you should mention Firefly. I had never heard of it until I came to the Anchorage. So last week I did a bit of research. It is currently being shown in Aus but buried at 1.00am and was never advertised
Woe to us, the poor abused Sci-Fi fans of Aus

I intend to set the VCR for 1:00 am tonight and check it out. I already think I will like it though, as anything by Joss is good. I mean he did bring us Buffy didn't he. Paired with Willow, Cordy, Tara, Faith, Drusilla and Darla. MMMMM Buffy
