Sigh, the original series had one of the best opening themes in TV history. Okay, it was cheese, sort of the Salieri version of Mozart's Star Wars theme, but at least it was good, high-quality cheese.
I downloaded an MP3 of the new theme from somewhere, and was sorely disappointed. The addition of the onscreen visual imagery makes it much better than the tune by itself, but still, I'm not a huge fan of it. I doubt I'll find myself humming it, as with the B5, Andromeda, Firefly, and even Entrerprise themes. The style of music used on BSG-TNS works well as incidental music over a cool scene, I had no problem with the music in the episodes or miniseries themselves. But even the slightly-better miniseries opening music (zooming to the Galactica and over Adama's walk-while-practicing-his-speech) is barely hummable.
Crusade suffered from the same percussion-heavy music that was fine as incidental music but lousy as an opening theme song. It didn't last, let's hope BSG doesn't share the same fate.

I'm confused, have they *changed* the theme tune for the US audience? I actually like the one they show on Sky, christ! I hope they haven't wrecked it with some US cheezy rock thing like in Enterprise which is just embarrassing. Can someone clarify? or post a mp3?

No, it's roughly the same melody, but without the woman's singing. It's really kind of muted and underwhelming without her.

What an amazing 1st episode!!!! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D out of ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D It was well worth the wait! The end of the mini gives the impression that they have jumped into safety and are now off onto a great adventure. Then, probably right after Adama's speech, they were making their 2nd jump. Thanks to Xenu for redoing this thread so us 1st time American viewers can have the chance to start fresh! ;D BTW, did the first two episodes run back-to-back in the U.K., as they did here? The non-segway was awesome! We were getting ready to get up to get something to drink, but we had to sit right back down!

I was particularly pleased that they fleshed out some things with the Cylons in the opener: that Six wants to have a baby with Baltar & that if he embraces her god, he will be saved. Very interesting. These themes will certainly emerge in later episodes. The robotic Cylons on Caprica were very cool too. KR

Why did they change the opening theme? I liked the Sky One theme better, but I do like that they showed the episode title; however, I also noticed that when they broke for commercial they did not show the BSG logo (I liked that). Are there any overnight ratings yet? Enterprise was a horrible episode and I cannot imagine that many people sat throught that over BSG! *****EDIT******* tv.zap2it.com/tveditorial/tve_main/1,1002,272_617|92959|1|,00.html I just check Zap and while they do not have the numbers for SciFi UPN scored 0.9 so I am sure that we can guess what all the scifi fans were watching ;D

I'm brand new to the forum and very happy to be here.
I am a loyal fan of TOS, but also a sci fi freak, so I was thrilled when I heard about the TNS. I was cautious about some of the changes, but once I saw the mini-series, I could tell that this was the show for me.
I love how '33' jumps right into the story, from where we left off. I thought the plotting was tight and that the tension was well-maintained. I loved the conflicts between characters as they try to make life and death decisions.
One of the things I loved about the show was the darkness. I know that the hint that maybe no one was onboard was, perhaps, an attempt to lighten things, but I appreciated that they were never sure. Someone answered when they 1st hailed the ship, so there was at least one person on that ship. Were they alive? I don't see the Cylons unloading everyone before sendint the ship back. Was everyone dead already? Who knows?
I thought that made a good lead-in to the developing relationship between Lee and the President. It also led to a good scene between Lee and his father. The awkwardness is still there, though the love is underneath. All-in-all, I found it a captivating series premier. The time flew by very fast.

5 out of frakin' 5!!!! "33". Incredible. Phenomenal. Intense. These are 3 words that I thought described the first 8 minutes, & then there was MORE!!! This had to be the best series/season opener in history! I have never been literally on the edge of my seat for an entire hour, but I couldn't relax for the entire show. The 33 minute concept was BRILLIANT! When we first catch up with the fleet they had already made like 240 something jumps, & they were on their last legs. I was right there with them, feeling their anxiety, cringing every time the clock got near 33 minutes & praying to the Lords of Kobol whenever the countdown got near zero! In my opinion there was nobody at all on the Olympic Carrier, I think the Cylons mimicked the pilot's voice to fool the fleet! They did the right thing! I feel like a scumbag, for every time that it seemed that Baltar was going to get busted for his crimes but got saved in the nick of time I was cheering for him! He is the villain but I feel myself rooting for him sometimes, because he is the ultimate "bad guy"! He didn't mean to be in this predicament but his ego & carelessness got him here & he is paying for it with 6's relentless sexual/psychological torture! This is the most interesting "romance/relationship" I have ever seen in an ongoing series! This series has RENEWAL written all over it!

still dont know of a rating. Ratings for cable take longer to come out as the overnights only apply to network TV. However, given the fact that Enterprise scored 1.9 and UPN 0.9 I think it is a safe bet that 3-4 million watched BSG on Friday (maybe more). ;D

My bad... would using the word "coitus" make you feel better? How about "bumping uglies"?
