Just a question..... What consists of Colonial One's Presidential Staff

We know So far that Billy is a "Special Assistant to the President"

And its a Small Stretch to Say that Wallace Grey is Colonial One "Chief of Staff"

Baltar is obviously Vice-President

it is mensioned elseware that "The Church" has a limited advisary role Would Elosha be something along the lines of The Archbishop of Cantibury or Pontifex Maximus

Would Lee by Military Liason Adviser to the President...

With the agreement between Adama and Roslin on the Seperation of Powers between Civil and Military... is there a "de-facto" Bi-Cameral System in place (im guessing that the Articles of Colonisation originaly outlined a Chain of Command with the President at the top and a "joint chiefs" arangement for Fleet and Marines..... but it seems to be evident that roslin as virtually no say on military affairs..... hence being thrown in the brig)

Do Adama and Tigh constsitute a Joint Chiefs arangement (the president has consulted Tigh without consulting adama first)

what were the levels of government....

my guess is there were 3 levels of government Local/County/City Government.... A Colonial Legislature (much like a State Government) and then an Inter-Colonial Government (Quorum of 12) i'd assume that individual colonies weileded much greater "states rights" than say Australian or US contemporaries. (hence the need for the UN Security Council style Quorum) in addition to this id say there would have been an Independent Executive (cabinet) headed by the President... a bill would go to the House of Representitives. then passed to the Quorum for Review and Assent or would there have been a seperate senate/lords style house of Review, and then assent is provided for in the quorum on the advice of the Colonal (state) legislature?

Below are season one spoilers, but stated vaguely...

Early on, Adama and Roslin agreed that Commander Adama would have full control over military matters, while Roslin has ultimate authority in non-military matters. In Episode 8, Roslin says over Commander Adama's objections to interrogating Leoben, "That's an order." In Episode 12, Roslin trumps Commander Adama's objections in order to put Baltar onto a Raptor. So, Roslin does trump Commander Adama in non-military matters.

In Episode 12, when Roslin caused Starbuck to disobey a direct order from Adama, Roslin was effectively removing Adama's authority in military matters. That convinced Adama that Roslin was a threat who needed to be contained, or perhaps just a bad girl who needed a little "time-out." But Roslin has shown herself to be ruthless murderer (episode 8), not anybody's plaything (episode 12), so maybe it wasn't such a good idea to mess with her (episode 13.)

The other details of the government, I'm less sure about. In episode 11, we learned that the president gets the swing vote in the case of ties of the 12 "senators." This suggests a president with only weak power, a bit less than the U.S. president. If just 7 senators can form a coalition, they may be able to control almost every decision.

In Star Wars we have senator Jar Jar Binks, in Babylon 5 we have emperor Vir Cotto, and so what about Battlestar Galactica? The closest character we have to comic relief is Ellen. Senator Ellen? Her interest in episode 11 suggests this could come to pass!

I am kind of amused that they are keeping around the system of representatives of the colonies, now that they are no longer colonies and are mostly mixed together in the fleet. With Zarek and the Saggitarians (sp?), it's obvious that the people are still motivated by colonial prejudices.
