There was a halfway-serious effort to make such a series a couple of years ago. They got as far as writing a pilot and deciding to pick Australia as a filming location, but that's the last concrete info I heard about it. My guess is that they ran afoul of problems with clashes between the author and the studio execs over casting and other concerns. Weber had gotten some clauses in the contract giving him serious veto authority, at least in the early stages of production, then a clause that once production began, any concerns of his would have to be answered in writing. Last update I heard was that they were talking about who to cast for Honor herself, and Weber was having a hard time finding someone who could pull off Honor's "style of command" who the studios would agree was hot enough to play the lead. Personally, I'd rather see a yearly miniseries rather than a weekly series for Honor. Nah, miles needs movies or at least a series of tv miniseries to be told properly. I can't see him sustaining a good weekly series. Writing stories worthy of Miles that fit into an hour would be well-nigh impossible.

Elijah Wood isn't one heck of a lot bigger that 4'9". His bio says 5'6." Horsehockey. Poor Sean Astin is stuck doing SciFi $750,000 specials.

Dont call it backlash, call it OPPORTUNITY. Maybe we will get to see some grown up SciFi now. There sure are some fine scifi novels waiting in the wings for interpretation into movies or TV series.
How about David Brins "Uplift War"? That would be sweet.
Or Fillipos "Ribofunk"
Yea and Honor Harrington ofcourse. But a mini series version of "Mote in Gods Eye" would ROCK.
Or best of all, a version of "Starship Troopers" that follows the book.
