After my source reported the rating on Flesh & Blood, we had a long conversation on whether BSG should remain on Friday nights or switch to a new night and time. Sci-Fi is of the opinion that they have all their BEST shows on Friday nights and they might do well to move some of these shows in order to develop a new night of programming. My source mentioned this was just something he was exploring and generating a report on for the big-wigs. I did relay that right now the programming is working out beautifully, with BSG even increasing the audience of its companion Stargate series. I also said it would be a shame if a new night was chosen for BSG. And with Enterprise gone, some of those folks might migrate over to Sci-Fi Friday too. Why rock the boat? It was an interesting conversation, nonetheless, and I thought I would report it here for your consumption. KR P.S. If some programming change were to occur, it would not happen until Season 2- although they might try some other nights out in the rerun phase to test audience response.

I had read some speculation about this a few weeks ago.
Problem is, where to put it, and what other "original" shows do the have to put around it.
With the "bigwigs" on record as wanting to take SFC away from space based scifi, I don't see how moving the show would advance their agenda.
Those dweebs in that ratings dept. in NYC that produce all those silly monster films, do they think they will get better ratings by having BSG lead or follow thier crap?
Or, does the Monday repeat do reasonably well, and they figure stuffing it among some SG:1 repeats will work well?

Funny you should mention Monday night. I just posted this at fleets. BSG is not doing well at all in the re-airing on Monday nights. But it is on at a later period & it is a second rerun of that week's episode. Sci-Fi is not ruling out any day of the week. KR

I think 10 p.m. Friday nights is one of the worst possible timeslots for any show. Let's not forget, that's the slot that finally killed Star Trek TOS. The fact that BSG is doing well in that slot is impressive, but it would very likely do better in a different slot. Let's remember another example, The X-Files. It started Friday's at 9 p.m. and struggled through its first season. The show got a lot of buzz and its ratings improved over the next two seasons, but it didn't become a ratings blockbuster until it moved to Sundays at 9 p.m. early in its fourth season. A lot of fans didn't want the show to move, but in the end it was clearly a smart choice for the network and the series.
I suspect the thinking over at Sci-Fi is that the Stargates can hold their own. BSG may be helping them, but they would probably still do well with another show bringing up the rear. If they move BSG to Sunday nights or Monday nights, its ratings might improve and they could add one or two original shows to their lineup and end up with two successful nights of TV rather than just the one they have now. I think it would be a very smart move assuming they could find those one or two other shows.

Sunday is scary I think.
I think that Fox still has the key demographic locked up for Sunday.
If they are smart, and want big numbers, they look for the weakest competition, and rake in good numbers.
If they try to challenge other strong shows, then they are either stupid, or are looking for an excuse to kill the show.

If it isnt broke, Dont fix it!
BSG is doing well on Friday night along with both stargates, unless they plan on moving SG1 and Atlantis to a new night with BSG I hope that they arent that they dont mess it up.

I agree leave it where it is, becasue it has two great shows as a lead in. People arrive a 8 EST and they do not leave until BSG is over. Some maybe even come in at 10 EST and then catch the repeats of the SG's.
It is a win-win for everyone. I say leave it on Friday.

Me too. SciFi Friday is the best. What new shows does SciFi have in the works for next season?

The Friday night slot does seem to work well for the show(s), so far anyway. I also like the fact that the next day is a non-work, non-school day for most; therefore it may make it easier for people to watch it at that later time slot.
However, I never did understand why Friday night, considering that Friday has classically been date night (well, in addition to Saturday night. As far as I remember anyway!) I'm curious about Sciffy's rationale for picking that night as original programming night.
I agree with Darth Marley's assessment that Sciffy should put the show(s) up against their weakest competitors. And on the subject of what would be a good night (if they must change it; I'm happy with Friday nights, too) I don't think Monday night would be good for a first-time viewing night. In the fall, in the States at least, there's Monday night football. If you want any kind of crossover viewership, that's a night you're definitely not going to gain viewers on!

Please, please, please, please leave it on Friday nights. Saturday, same time slot would be a second choice. If it goes to a weeknight, I'm screwed. I am at work at 5:30 am and if it stays at the same time on a weeknight, I'll be asleep when it is on. I would like it to stay in the same timeslot so they don't have to scale back the content for prime time.

I'm going to agree with the majority, keep it on Friday nights. If they want to try switching something, then maybe put BSG in between the 2 Stargates. I'm not really in to SG Atlantis so I don't know what their ratings are like, but for those people who might want BSG on a bit earlier, maybe doing that would help.
Just keep in mind though that those of you who are seeing it on at 10pm (EST), the CST folks are seeing it at 9pm. I think the West Coast has to wait longer and probably would anyway regardless of when it is on.

I spend all week looking forward to BSG on Friday nights. Perhaps working all week and then coming home to the weekend and my favorite show is part of it. If another night will boost the show ratings then I am all for it.
