What do you reckon. Starbucks estranged dad is on one of the other ships he is played by DB. I do not suggest this to appease the diehard fans I just think it would be interesting.

That's been suggested before, and isn't a horrible idea, but isn't this Starbuck an orphan (just like the old one)? Can't really be estranged. I also think that Dirk would make an interesting Cain if RDM decides to do the Pegasus thing.
The problem is, from what I've read, Dirk isn't so keen on the new BSG... he may not go for it.

Don't want to offend any DB fans, but I don't think he has the acting style that would fit within this cast. His modest talent would stick out like a sore thumb.

Dirk as Starbuck's dad? Please no! In the latest edition of Dreamwatch, there is a Q&A with Dirk. I was amused at some of his answers: DW: What's your dream role? DB: Playing Starbuck at age 50 (in the proposed galactica continuation) would have been a dream role. (What i say: Please let it remain a dream.) DW: If you could pass one law, what would it be? DB: There shall be no remakes of old american tv series without script approval of at least 60 per cent of the old fans that made the original series a success in the first place. DW: Starbuck Vs Han Solo: who wins? DB:Neither. They would go off to the nearest grotto to drink ambrosia, smoke fumerellos and pick up groovy space chicks. I'm sorry, but Han and Starbuck would never fight. Think he's right there ;D Don't know about our Starbuck though. Han was a pretty good looking guy...

DB should either be Cain or the janitor I cannot see any other place for him. As many have pointed out he really does not measure up to the caliber of the cast and would come off rather flat when compared.
I think he could pull off Cain because the character is over the top and a little crazy any other role in TNS would require the chops for drama and I just do not see it with DB.

I can't think of anyone I would want on the new series *less* than D.B.
In fact, I really don't see the point of having any more actors from TOS on the new show.
If Hatch's character comes back, since he is already established, that might work all right, but they would have to be careful not to overdo it as far as I am concerned.
More TOS actors on the show it could be detrimental and a step backward IMO.

Ellen Tigh has already filled the long-lost-family-member-reunion slot. You can't play that scene more than once.
The only other TOS cast member that I'd welcome seeing on TNS would be Jane Seymour. She's a classy lady and a considerable talent who could step in and hold her own with the rest of the cast. Not sure if I'd want her playing alongside Tom Zarek though. Might be too gimmicky.

Please don't bring in DB as a smart arse commander or Starbuck's dad or whatever. I hate slagging off actors but what has DB done in the last 20 years in terms of acting? I for one would be really disappointed with RDM if they brought DB into the show. However, i have faith that RDM is better than this (i.e. he knows DB is a crap actor ;D) Agreed. Although i wouldn't mind some of the secondary characters like Dualla or Cally etc being reunited with family. Remember the series has only covered about 3 months (if that - i can't remember now). It's possible some people might be reunited with family but i wouldn't make a big deal out of it. I think in the next series the show should be looking at members of the crew trying to come to terms with the aftermath of the destruction of their colonies. Season 1 given its short time frame dealt with the here and now. I don't know. Anything i've seen her in i have always thought she's been pretty bland . I see her more as a pretty face kind of actress. Wouldn't class her in Mary McDonnell's league.

In the original series, one of the last episodes was about Starbuck thinking he had found his father. The late Fred Astaire played a gambler, ne'er do well con man who figured out a "missing persons" scheme using DNA (or something like that) for Colonials finding loved ones. The scheme did work...all too well...for Astaire. He was Starbuck's missing father but decided it was best not to let him know. They got along too well as "friends" so why spoil it being "Son and estranged Father?".
For the TNS to pull this kind of caper with the present Starbuck would be detrimental, in my opinion. Setting up Richard Hatch as a continuing TNS cast member is one thing. His present role is quite unlike his older "Apollo" character I do not have any problems seeing him differently. But Dirk coming back as an older "Starbuck"?
Nah. I was not enamoured with his role to begin with. But neither was I with Hatch's "Apollo" either. I did not have any "favorites" with that show. Just liked some aspects more than others.
Needless to say, Astaire's acting ability far outshone Dirk's by a mile.

This show doesn't need Dirk Benedict. It doesn't even need Cain. It doesn't even need to find Earth.

This show doesn't need Dirk Benedict. It doesn't even need Cain. It doesn't even need to find Earth. I can agree with that. RDM should not to bring back too many aspects of the old show, whether its old cast members, old story lines or finding Earth (that and the whole eastern alliance thing really made me loose interest in the old series towards the end of the first season. It would be the kiss of death IMO.) After all, this is supposed to be a reimagined series. Bring back too many tie-ins to TOS and, well, it might spoil the soup, so-to-speak.

The Eastern Alliance! HA! Forgot about those dudes. That was pretty crummy. By the Lords of Kobol, I hope RDM doesn't bring in the frakking Eastern Alliance.
