Do you think there will be aliens in season 2? Do you even want there to be?

I've heard that there will be no "Trek type" aliens or planets of the week. Thats not to say they won't find slime or other less developed alien life forms on the planets they do come across.

There was plenty of goo and slime in the Cylon Raider Although i remember an interview with EJO who said the moment an alien appears on the show - he's walking. So i don't think Adama and crew will encounter ET just yet.

I was thinking they can do alien encounters like they do in Homeworld, no visual communication...

Maybe...
I want to know if there are any Cylons more advanced than toasters but not as advanced as the 12 models.
Maybe they will look like 'Aliens' - experiments that the Cylons did before they perfected Human tissue?

Hey, that isn't a bad idea. One idea I came up with is that they'll encounter people who were exiled from Kobol long ago, and they will act "alien" to the Galatica.

Put me in the vote for no aliens camp. Maybe its 'cus I'm not a huge Sci-Fi fan, but just seeing some of the goofiness of Stargate while waiting for BSG the last few weeks makes me hope BSG never goes down that road. There are plenty of good stories to tell without getting into little green men or latex-covered Asians.

Well, it is possible to have a sci-fi story(that's galaxy-wide) without aliens, take Dune for example. Personally I don't care if they encountered aliens or not, but I think I'll get tired of space combat(eventually) if it will always be Vipers VS Raiders. I would like to see different kind of ships. And I think this show has mention aliens already, IE. "Lords of Kobol"(of course, they can just be a myth).

Some thoughts;
Aliens would really freak out the fundamentalist Cylons.
What if immediatly after the First Cylon War some Cylons broke off and formed their own space faring civilization? They evolve differently (perhaps they are a truly secular society) and become the TNS version of the 'Beings of Light'.
If Aliens are encountered they better not speak English or I will puke.
It would be interesting if Aliens are encountered that already passed through the developmental phase that human/cylon civilization is going through. They have successfully negotiated the singularity of AI and moved on; they might view the humans and cylons as primitive, erring siblings.
Aliens could be primitive technologically but sentient and philosophically sophisticated. Say, an intelligent race of ocean dwelling octopi (something non-humanoid). How would the Cylons react and how would the Colonials feel if the Cylons exterminated them?
Aliens could be lots of fun if its treated with the same respect and style other story elements in TNS are treated with. Just skip the cliches and go where no producers have gone before and it will work.
But leave it for much later in the series.
Okay, thoughts done. ;D

Aliens could be primitive technologically but sentient and philosophically sophisticated. Say, an intelligent race of ocean dwelling octopi (something non-humanoid). How would the Cylons react and how would the Colonials feel if the Cylons exterminated them? I think there are some excellent ideas here. I think we all hope that there are no bumpy-heads in TNS and I could do without yet another transcendent beings of light alien. But it would be fascinating if, for example, they find a planet with a species that might be approaching sapience or seems to have some rudimentary language. TNS seems to be working on a principle that the natural emergence of conditions for life is relatively rare. The oddities of the colonial system is a hint that it might have been terraformed and the cycle of time hints imply that if we do find any other kind of life - sapient or not - that it might have been something to do with an earlier turn of the cycle. I can certainly imagine as well finding worlds that were wrecked by a machine intelligence and, if a broad galatic theme is to emerge I wonder if it would be the machine galaxy style idea. For example, imagine that any world which produces a technological civilization eventually discovers AI and that AI's first act is to decide that it is the true inheritor of the universe. In that case the galaxy may be being gradually populated by machines. Perhaps the Cylons intercepted some messages at one point and they are beginning to realise that all of "God's chosen" are machines. Perhaps therefore "God" or the Imperious Leader is technically an alien. If that is the case then perhaps the colonials are some of the last non-machine intelligences in the galaxy. Perhaps the colonials are actually refugees from previous machine intelligence who found a superbly well-hidden system but 2000 years ago someone betrayed them. There are many ways to introduce aliens which don't require bumpy-heads and perhaps ask questions of what it means to be 'alive'.

I would like there to be aliens, but not the "humanoid" kind (ie: Klingons). I am a Trekkie, but leave the Ferengies in the Trek universe. I would like there to be aliens kind of like the giant sand worms from Dune. Aliens don't have to look like humans or speak English, they don't have to speak at all.
