Personally I would prefer to have 13 quality episodes rather than a diluted version which would reduce the quality of the series

Well, I'm used to 22-episode seasons, but 13 would mean I only have to do about half as many episode guide pages for my new episode guide...so I'll go for 13 quality episodes. At least they're not trying to cram a year of plot time into 13 episodes, as Andromeda, B5, and the Trek series all had each season represent about a year in story time.

I'd prefer they keep the dozen or so episodes per season. Seems to work well for other recent US cable shows we see here. Any more episodes and they have to start opening it up to larger teams of writers and the thing gets diluted and can go off track producing more bad episodes per season.

13 for me too. It's my lucky number you know.
In hind sight, it's a shame that the day is twenty four hours long.
If it was only 13 hours we wouldn't have to endure so much of Jack Bauer.

13 are the best choice for the quality of the series. If they make more episodes in a season, they will make some bad episodes. The reason is that they have more time to make the episodes perfect when they have only a 13-episodes-season. It's definetely the right choice. And maybe it is also an interessing connection tho the series: 13 episodes -> they search the 13th tribe... ;D

Now we're gonna have insane semanticians trying to determine which episode represents which member of the Olympic Pantheon/sign of the zodiac/member of the apostles/tribe of Israel/original US colonies/month of the year/whatever. "No, Bastille Day is definitely Georgia, since it was originally a penal colony..."

Correct me if I'm wrong, but most of you who'll vote for a short 13 ep season, you're Brits, huh? You are used to short seasons on TV. BBC rarely has more than 13 eps of a show per season, do they? Well, I for one want at least 20!! Here in the States, we are used to at least 20 eps a season! Short seasons blow! If they extend the 2nd season to 20, it won't get diluted, RDM will make sure of that. Remember, he has seen what that can do in the past, he's a Trek alumnist! He is going to do all the right things with BSG TNS, I have complete confidence in him. C'mon, he's Ronald D. "Frakin" Moore!!!

I'm a brit but I actually watch alot more US shows than our stuff mainly sci-fi interests me when it comes to episodic tv and well we dont really get that, so i'm more used to shows that have 20+ ep seasons but I think in the case of BSG I'm not so sure about a 20+ ep run if its kept to 13 then season would hopefully have the same pruduction value any maybe if there were more eps there wouldnt be as much money per ep available.

Excellent point, Helo. Let's keep the quantity down so the quality, as relates to both writing and CGI/budgetary issues, stays up. ;D

Though can they please price the DVD boxsets accordingly? d'ya think? I mean, £40/$76 for 13 episodes?! I don't begrudge paying that for Babylon 5 or Stargate SG-1 boxsets (22 episodes)but for BSG? I adore the show but my wee DVD budget only goes so far! Oh well... will have to see what can hold out the longest - my willpower or Play.com putting in a sale... (I'm thinking the latter is going to go first! )

Very wise...
I agree - each episode is significant that way.

I put "14-19." The reason I put that is because I'd like to see some token increase in the number of episodes, just as a show of faith from the network. I'd say 15 tops. But I definately do NOT want too many.

But I definately do NOT want too many. Hmmm...that might be a good idea. Do the 13 regular episodes, but then also do one 2-hour special, written and edited so in later syndication it can be aired as a 2-parter, but initially to be broadcast as a 2-hour special. Sorta like the original series did with "Greetings From Earth". From a marketing standpoint, you could also promote this 2-hour special as a movie event, and also sell it overseas as a TV-Movie, DVD, or VHS movie in markets where the show itself isn't broadcast, like B5 did with "A Voice in the Wilderness". The obvious candidate for such a treatment is, of course, the Pegasus story, or perhaps the appearance of Count Iblis or his TNS equivalent. But I'm sure RDM can think of a plotline he's been toying with, but which is too big for a one-hour episode or which is hard to cover fully while also keeping tabs on all the other little plotlines going on at the same time. The big plot arc probably makes it hard to do such a story as a true stand-alone, and to do it right you almost have to have this story concern some major plot point or big-time revelation. But I'm sure RDM can come up with a way to tread that fine line between making such a special event accessible to new viewers, as well as giving it added meaning and significance for us rabid fans.
