Few people get excited when some new software is released, especially when the program is not a game or a music or movie player. But the release of the first full version of a web browser called Firefox has managed to drum up a respectable amount of pre-launch fervour. Fans of the software have banded together to raise cash to pay for an advert in the New York Times announcing that version 1.0 of the browser is available. The release of Firefox 1.0 on 9 November might even cause a few heads to turn at Microsoft because the program is steadily winning people away from the software giant's Internet Explorer browser. Hearts and minds Firefox has been created by the Mozilla Foundation which was started by former browser maker Netscape back in 1998. Several early versions of Firefox have been released since February when the browser made its first appearance. Since then the software has been gaining praise and converts, not least because of the large number of security problems that have come to light in Microsoft's Internet Explorer. Rivals to IE got a boost in late June when two US computer security organisations warned people to avoid the Microsoft program to avoid falling victim to a serious vulnerability.

I've started to use Firefox and I love it. Haven't had any compatibility problems. Runs faster and some cool options IE doesn't have. Plus the pop up blocker is the best. If you haven't tried it I suggest looking into it.

Been using it for a while now, and love it. Thank the fraking Lords of Kobol for Firefox. Even the pre-releases were good.

I prefer the Mozilla Suite to Firefox - in fact I've been using it since 2001 (when it was version 0.6).
I've even contributed a couple of bugfixes for it..

Any o' you Mozilla guys wanna take a stab at why the archives on the front page don't work in Firefox?

The archives work-- you've just gotta know how to read the source code. But really, I've seen that a few times with the pre release, but never have with the final version until now. Maybe there's something about it over at the Firefox forums.

I haven't had any problems with Firefox on this site. Everything works fine. Microsoft IS the Cylon God.

Firefox works fine with me. The only thing I noticed is when you refresh with FF it always takes you back to the main page regardless of where you where. With IE it never does that it just refreshes where you are. Other than that no problems here with it.
