Yep, they're done. The idiots in charge can't get it figured out. Now they'll sit around until August before talking to one another and next season will be delayed at best.
No big deal. I still get my 2 nights a week in on the ice.
Hard to completely blame the players for all the problems in the game. The owners were going nuts spending the money they collected from the expansion teams and blew salaries way out of proportion.
The owners want the players to treat the NHL as one big business but then they want to operate as 30 individual businesses. If they want the player to act in the overall interest of the league then the owners should be willing to do the same. That means true revenue sharing.
The NHL is a gate driven league with no meaningful TV revenue. The teams should combine their gates and disperse the money amongst themselves. After all, they want the players to act in the best interest of the league, so should they.
The players do need to realize that the salaries were driven up artificially by expansion money. Money that's gone now. Either they need to be capped or guaranteed contracts have to go.
I think a cap combined with revenue sharing is the way to go. The players do not want to discuss a cap. The owners are yet to propose any plan that includes revenue sharing in a real sense. Not gonna change soon either.
Other issues need to be addressed before I watch hockey again once they get their heads out of their asses and get a CBA done. The product as it is, sucks. This is coming from someone who has watched and played hockey for as long as I can remember.
TV time outs need to go. They suck the life out of the game and out of the building. Play the damn commercials and come back to the game. If we miss something show a replay. It's the way it used to be done.
Call the rules. They say they're going to do it every year but don't.
Reduce the number of players dressed for each game. 18 players should be a max. That way the best players are on the ice and showing skills more and the plugs are in the press box.
Get rid of the stupid guaranteed point for getting to OT. This makes teams play for the tie for the whole third period....boring! Get rid of 4 on 4. That's not hockey! Either have a tie or play until there's a winner. They'll be trying to win if the possibility is there they might have to play all night otherwise.
NEVER EVER go to shootouts. If they do. I'm done forever with the NHL. Like I said, I play the game, I'll be OK without the pros. Individual skills competitions are no way to decide a team sport.
So ends my hockey diatribe. At least I posted it where it said 'For hockey fans'.
