Came across this interesting bit of news today: www.syfyportal.com/article.php?id=1666Now that General Electric owns both NBC and the properties that once made up Vivendi Universal, there could be some changes in the horizon. One of those changes might very well affect Sci-Fi Channel's new series, "Battlestar Galactica." The miniseries, which aired in December 2003 on Sci-Fi Channel, will become the first product from the cable channel to make the airwaves at NBC, thanks to the joint ownership of the cable channel and the network. While network executives say the abridged version of the miniseries, which airs Saturday night, is a way to promote the new series on Sci-Fi Channel, one source at NBC says there's more to the story than that. "They're testing the viability of 'Battlestar' on NBC, to see how it fits with their viewers," the source told SyFy Portal. "We've got a few guys upstairs that think this could be a good summer series for NBC, or maybe even find a slot on the fall schedule." This would be really cool!!! KR

Like I stated before, if NBC did pick it up BG could become a huge success due to increased viewership, ie people who do not watch the sci fi channel. I wonder where they would place it on their schedule however?

KR As long as they do not tone down the adult themes I am all for it, if they want to turn this into the 8pm family/adventure hour I would be very upset.

Indeed as long as they do not tone the series down to make it more pc .... it is a good development. Also with these latest developments I would say a 2nd season is almost in the bag ..........

To the very best of my knowledge they have not toned down an scene so far. 8pm in the UK is fine becasue you do not have the FCC and the religious right here in the US TNS is a 10pm adult show, if they were to move it to 8pm on NBC you would have a very different show, and one that I am sure 99.9% of TNS fans would not like.

If you think 8pm is early, you should see some of the stuff that airs at 7pm (UK members of this site will know what I mean [Yeah, OK only soaps]). As for mainland Europe. Oh, boy the FCC would have a heart attack.

Nobody here has seen Thai tv. Where they broadcast accidents in all their blood and gore without respect for the victims. Same is for thai tv shows.
Japan also has some bizarre tv shows it seems.
And last but not least the Netherlands .......
Nope anybody whom is used to US tv ain't seen nothing yet! ;D

I really hope it doesn't find a home on NBC.
While it would be good for those involved in production because it would likely mean better pay. Chances are it will mean a shorter series because the series would eventually lose its edge to the play it safe mentality of network television.
I'm deeply troubled that it gets picked up by NBC. I've waited for 1 year for things series to come out. I'm excited. I don't want to wait until November and I don't want the series to become another joke because some network sob at NBC thinks s/he knows how GQ sci-fi public viewer wants to see tv.

The BBFC is worse on films than the FCC is on TV shows. My all time favorite is still The Abyss, where the BBFC required that the rat in the liquid oxygen had to be edited out because of cruelty to animals, even though it was clear that the mouse was alive and breathing. Then there's the editing out of head-butts and the use of Asian weapons.
The new Galactica could easily air at 9pm on a network. There have been more graphic and adult shows, such as the X-Files, for example that aired without incident. And there's nothing worse in the new Galactica than you'll find in the O.C., or just about any sitcom.
On the other hand, I think the writers will be more free to produce what they want without the heightened scrutiny of the networks. Imagine Col. Tigh sitting in his room chugging a Coke, hehe.

I am not sure why everyone thinks that just because this airs on NBC, it's automatically going to be watered down.
There isn't a lot in the series that needs to be watered down. The mini had a couple of minor things in it that was changed, like "asshole." But it seemed like if anything else was cut, it was done for time constraints rather than censors.
I mean, they showed Number Six's hand going into Baltar's pants. If ANYTHING was going to be censored out, THAT would've been.
And remember that unlike Fox and the netlets, NBC has primetime programming going right up to 11 p.m. If the show was going to be a little more racy, they can air it in a 9 p.m. or 10 p.m. timeslot.

Is there a reason why my text was altered? I tried to say a word that was in the miniseries, but it was changed here to bumhole.
I really hate censorship.
