If you're suggesting that Sky time compress the episodes so they can run even more adverts than the US, again this doesn't make sense, given the running time of the episodes themselves, and the fact that time compression of this sort would raise the pitch rather than lower it, as well as likely introduce some noticeable visual artifacting due to frame blending/skipping Ok fairy puff, have a listen to "Water" after the 3rd break, and see if it sounds, shall we say, a bit , squeeky?

On a vaguely related note...I long ago found good MIDI music files of the classic series theme and some other TOS music. I lack the software or music ability to make such MIDI files myself, but I hope someone makes some of the miniseries and TNS music clips into MIDI files sometime soon. Has anyone seen any TNS music in MIDI format in their travels across the net?

I can make whatever format you want Woo hoo! I realize I've hit you with several requests lately (Miniseries screencaps mainly), but if you could do the US/UK themes, the opening theme from the miniseries and perhaps the Ragnar Anchorage theme...well, I can't afford to send you a check, but I'd at least consider naming my firstborn son after you...assuming I ever have a kid... ;D The reason I ask is that MIDI files are much better as background sounds on webpages, since they load a lot faster than .WAV or .MP3 files of the same length.

Unfortunately, most people tend to find background sounds on webpages rather annoying today, so if you use them you should make it so the sounds can be turned off by the visitor.
Background sounds and music were "cool" when the whole internet was still new and no one ever heard of WAV or MP3 format files.
The current thing to do is use macromedia flash to play music on webpages. They load real music quicker and sound better than old midi files.
If you can't do that then use streaming MP3, WMV, or RM files. These play while downloading and sound better than midi files.
So use background music sparingly and give your visitors an option.

You can stop a background MIDI from playing by hitting "stop" on your browser once the graphics have loaded. I tend to not have other flashy stuff on my pages (still writing the raw HTML code myself due to being an anal-retentive perfectionist control freak, but I ain't really that good with code), so there won't be anything else that would get harmed by hitting stop.
