At another forum, one person that volunteered for the Sci-Fi Channel's Mall Promotion asked the question about what the ratings were expected to be in order for the Sci-Fi Channel to give the go-ahead for a second season. The answer was "they sold the show at a 2.5 HH share, and want similar to renew." For comparison, the average ratings for SG-1 is about 1.8 and SG:Atlantis episode ratings are below: 16 July: 1.01 “Rising” — 3.4 23 July: 1.03 “Hide and Seek” — 2.47 30 July: 1.04 “38 Minutes” — 2.45 6 August: 1.05 “Suspicion” — 2.17
For any Sci-Fi show to average a 2.5 share, it's going to be a tough sell and will probably need the fans of the show to constantly try to get or ask people (nicely) to watch it and support it on a weekly basis. Taking a page out of the Farscape book, fans should also consider writing to the sponsors/advertisers of the show and thank them for their support of the show and that you purchase their products (send receipts if you have them). Hopefully as more people discover the show, the rating numbers will go up or at least hold steady.
One has to wonder how much BSG costs per episode, especially when the SkyOne Channel kicks in about $400,000 per episode.

Why worry about it? Universal or its agents will inquire eBay about the identity of the seller so they can sue them. Besides, why would anyone want an incomplete BSG season 1 set with the "SkyOne Exclusive" logo shown throughout the episodes? I'm sure you will see eBay auctions for episodes after the SciFi Channel airs it stateside (with the "Sci-Fi exclusive" logo shown instead). If they used the cheapest DVD blanks or made VCD's with cheap CD blanks, how many times would you be able to play the disc before it starts losing quality, parts of scenes, or become unplayable? Just wait for the official DVD release and have a DVD set that will last for years with deleted scenes and commentary extras. Can watch/rewatch your "personally recorded" vhs tapes, tivo, or dvd recorded discs in the meantime. Could always buy the region 2 DVD's when they come out, some episodes are already available for sale/presale in England. You just need a region-free or region 2 DVD player to view/play them. The U.S. DVD releases usually include a lot more extras, so many fans decide to wait. Buying legitimate DVD releases is one of the best ways to show support a show you want to see continued for as many seasons as possible. The number of DVD's sold and how long it remains in the top sellers list may show either a strong or weak interest in the show. Some cable companies know and record what percentage of viewers are watching which station and publish local overnight ratings (if not made public then are privately made available to cable channels for a fee), so watch the show when it airs. Those numbers may be more useful and accurate than Neilson ratings and may influence the renewal process. ;D

Should also consider writing thank you letters/e-mails to the advertisers and mention that you buy their products (if applicable). They are the ones paying the bills and most like to hear from viewers. Plus by writing, it gives the advertiser an additional indicator that their money is being spent wisely and effectively and may influence future decisions on whether or not to continue to pay or renew commitment to paying the ad rates for BSG. ;D
